To be fair, Kurtzman seems to have not given up appeasing what are sometimes "snottily" reffered to as the "Legacy Fans". Indeed, watching the rise of supposed "nu-trek" has an awfully familiar paint job, and 3/5 of the Trek shows currently airing are run by fans of the Pre-Kurtzman era: Prodigy with the Hageman's, Lower Decks with Mike Mahon. Even Strange New Worlds has Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonzo Meyers. (Special Mention to Anson Mount for apparent ability to rattle off his favourite TOS episodes)
Heck, Meyers and Goldsman even have admitted cheerfully in interviews they're making a show they'd like to watch as lifelong fans of the show.
Like, I might not like Kurtzman's style necessarily. The lighting's often too dark, the bridge designs a bit too sharp. The writing's a bit jank etc. Though the style has grown on me. Ya know, like moss on someone still living in 2005.

Early NuTrek was a bit too far away from the hopeful-future flavour that runs through every last show and movie from 1966.
But as the big guy in charge of this Era of Trek? The one who must've had to pick through dozens of show ideas, mooted show ideas, future plans etc?
As a dude who watched a similarly huge franchise apparently burn utterly to the ground by the person left to look after it while she cackled at the fans who used to turn up no matter what? Who supposedly sabotages at every turn the desperate rearguard action of actual fans of said franchise to revive it?
Like, we've seen it a
lot in recent times with an awful, awful lot of cherished IPs. Heck, it's still going on right now. Kurtzmen and Paramount actively seem to have chosen to avoid that route, Kurtzman's responce seems to have been to find as many Trek nerds as he could the split second he was given approval from Paramount to expand its Trek offering.
Now, cynically you can say the bottom line is all Paramount cared about, failed Kurtzman upwards so he would do less damage and ensure the merchandise sales would be protected. I don't beleive this, as evidenced by the looooong ramble above.
For that, he's owed many, many pints (or favoured drink of his choice)
