I don't know why they'd remake X before any of the more deserving FFs, but I'll take it. X is definitely one of my favorites. Is it actually a remake, or just an HD port type of thing? Seems like there's a million of those coming out.

Yeahhh. I went into XIII very cautiously because I'm one of those (mostly old-school) JRPG nerds who knows the directors, producers and writers off the tops of their heads and hadn't been remotely impressed with writer/director Motomu Toriyama's previous works. I'm glad I did, because I ended up walking away from XIII exactly how I expected -- kind of fun, no doubt, but terrible storytelling.

XIII-2 is starting to make XIII look like VI through X in that regard.

Are you sure? Or is the fanbase just that far removed now from what it used to be?

It's 'just' an HD port, basically. As far as we currently know, at any rate.

FFX is actually the most celebrated installment in Japan according to various higher-end polls over the past several years and with many Japanese developers really starting to fall behind their Western counterparts this generation, it's no surprise they'd focus on it. That and FFX is probably a fair bit simpler to up-res than VII through IX given the inherent technology issues of the two eras.

And FFX is no fan/critical slouch in the West, either, it's just not quite on the level of VII here.

Eagerly looking forward to this release. A shame it was just casually mentioned without any footage or screenshots, but meh.
