films with exaggerated acting

Pretty much any silent movie: see Metropolis, Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, etc.

Dungeons and Dragons? Jeremy Irons is a hoot.

When seeing this thread title, my immediate first thought was ANYTHING with William Shatner ...."

;)

Q2
I specifically would say Star Trek V and VI because everyone overacts in those. Although Shatner certainly hams it up in Generations.

I actually thought that Shatner's performance fit well into the other films.

I would argue that as comedies, Back to the Future and Bedazzled are supposed to be overacted. It was an intentional part of their charm. There is a big difference between those movies and something like Star Trek.

One of my favorite over actors of all time, Al Pacino's performance in the Devil's Advocate is another movie that sticks out for me.

I agree re: BTTF. I guess I took the "exaggerated" part of the question in isolation. I'm also a fan of Pacino's scenery chewing in Devil's Advocate (I like a good "ham and cheese sandwich"). Spartacus offers some fine "exaggerated" acting--the scene where Olivier and Laughton confront each other is worth the price of admission by itself (and apparently, the confrontation was not limited to when cameras were rolling).

Flash Gordon! Great hammy acting that suits films exaggerated visual style.

Maybe Buckaroo Banzai as well (Lithgow certainly chews scenery :))
