Filming starts January 15th. Jungle Planet?

I'm not sure why the building would necessarily have to be Earth and Starfleet Headquarters, but I suppose a good portion of the movies did show areas like that and the Federation Council chambers. For some reason I felt like they wouldn't return to Earth in this movie and that they would be going where no man has gone before, but maybe it's a bad idea to not show Earth?

Also, why did I have the feeling that the planet mission would involve a tropical location? I guess it's not too hard to guess these kinds of things.

Museum...new Engineering perhaps?

The Brewery wasn't exactly loved, so why not have a museum as the stand in this time.

Maybe it will be like the TARDIS and will have changeable "desktop/backgrounds". For the third movie it could be the produce section of a grocery store.

One of the earliest discussions from Orci & Kurtzman were that the wanted to not have a main villain, but wanted a planet to be the enemy. I could see the Enterprise crew trying to escape a hostile jungle. That would be cool.

But it could be done for a 2 hour big budget Hollywood movie? That kind of idea is great for an episode but for a movie?

True, Nerd unRage, but Starbreaker may be on the right track. Among the credible bits of information out there about the direction the story might take was an idea that the main conflict would not be driven by a traditional villain. Further, with "the family" (Kirk, Spock, McCoy et al) now formed, the conflict might challenge these new relationships. A human (or humanoid) antagonist (Del Toro?) is only a secondary part of the conflict created on (or by) the planet itself. Probably someone with his own set of motives given the conflict.

Actually, nothing much is really revealed by saying there's a jungle planet in the movie. It's just an empirical statement, right now. Jungles can be lush paradises, or dark hells. Both extremes can present their own sets of problems and conflicts. The planet may not even be a central part of the story.

Kinda like the Great Vegetable Rebellion episode from Lost In Space. Giant talking carrots anyone?

Quite possibly. Might even just be a quickie visit to 'New Vulcan' before the action starts.

Maybe New Vulcan is Ceti Alpha V. :D

 Except I think Spock Prime would've probably felt it necessary to tell them that's not a good idea.

I am certain of that. I also strongly suspect that Spock Prime provides, at the very least, a lengthy list of "suggestions" to SFC. Stuff to look out for, that sort of thing.

At the end of the movie he says "I have already located a suitable planet..." So I think he would choose one that isn't going to blow up or become a desert or be inhabited by evil aliens.

In other words, possibly the most boring planet in the Galaxy. Excellent place for the Vulcans to rebuild, certainly.

"Bigger in scope" sounds a little worrying (as in - What are they gonna blow up THIS time?). But, I'll wait and see. Thanks for that info.

Transwarp beaming is now quadrant-to-quadrant.

That and more lens flare.

Was amused by this comment (#104) in the TrekMovie comment thread. Is MONGO anyone from here?

There's more:
MONGO said:
Mongo want see new story. Mongo haves lot’s dvd of Khan. He have turn as bad guy. If any more movie story about Khan Mongo afraid he start to be like Riddler in Batman movies.

Mongo rather see Star Trek movie that not have bad guy. Mongo think if antagonist in movie why try faceless threat. Whale Probe faceless threat. That good movie and have no bad guy. Borg good faceless threat because remind of invading horde like Hun or Visigoth.

Mongo not want Borg or Whale Probe in movie but give idea. Mongo think that new movie probably rely on bad guy. Mongo think movie maker persons want tie movies together and not make stand alone story. That seem way movie work these days. Mongo hope that movie maker persons look to TOS for idea how write story. Look at Cage. Look at Errand of Mercy. Look at Bread and Circuses. Look at Doomsday Machine. Look at Devil in the Dark. Look at Spectre of the Gun.

Have drama come from unknown place. Have conflict come from not understanding unknown. Give crew chance to work as team. No more Spock choke Kirk. Kirk hero. Spock and Dr. McCoy different end of spectrum for Kirk to weigh decision.

Whatever do, not wait so long for movie. Mongo not have long attention span.
