Filming of Star Trek 3 will start in March of 2015

I've heard that they are aiming for a spring start date, but to be fair to Quinto, his actual quote was "I think it's is on the horizon," he said. "Things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be back in production sometime in the next six months."

Re: Next Star Trek out in time for 50th anniversary?

Plenty of time for a Summer 2016 release.

Can't wait. I hope Nu Trek 3 will finally break the action mould formula so to speak and something slightly slower paced. I enjoyed ST09 and Into Darkness, but I'd like to see something more lighthearted and adventurous. Hopefully a story without a villain.

I am super excited as well. What I wonder about is Zoe Saldana. She will just have given birth or will be 8/9 months pregnant at this time.

There is no way Trek 3 won't be action/adventure with a shoot-em-up supervillain -- *especially* considering it's the 50th anniversary. Shoes are too big to fill with something potentially flaky.

Looks very good for a summer '16 release. I'm already looking forward to the hype leading up to it.

TrekMovie has been told that the studio is moving forward with the project and have set production to start in mid February, 2015 (Currently penciled in for February 15).

One tidbit TrekMovie has picked up is the film is set "well into" the five year mission (so it does not pick up right after Star Trek Into Darkness). A source also tells TrekMovie that Earth will not play a significant role in the movie, unlike the previous two films.

Not bad. I hope we have a story based on adventure, mystery, humor and action. With new characters and well known.

Sounds promising.

I've enjoyed both movies a lot, and enjoyed Kirk's journey from wreckless punk to competent Captain, and I've had no problem with being able to see so much of Earth (Something we've not previously seen much of in Star Trek before), but, I'm really looking forward to "Boldly going..."

The news sounds great to me!

Somewhat confirms what I've thought all along; that Orci and Kurtzmann weren't exactly as in league with Damon Hackelof as it seemed. I guess we'll find out...
