Wow, I had no idea Lucifer was shot in Vancouver. So was Tom Ellis' other show Rush, which also took place in L.A.Vancouver: Lucifer
Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx was shot in Vancouver and they didn't even try to hide the coastline or the mountains. And then there was that time my city stood in for Vancouver, which was a riot given it showed the horizon with the rockies, and we're nowhere near the rockies.
Reign is shot in the outskirts of Toronto. If you watch that show you'll get some idea of what to expect from location shooting. So I guess the fact this is filming in Canada means we can expect a lot of the same kinds of forest planet we saw on the Stargates.

I had just assumed Lucifer was filmed in LA. They did a really good job of covering that up.
And I believe that all the "Japan" scenes in the most recent GODZILLA were actually filmed in Canada as well.
Heck, the first DAREDEVIL movie was set in Hell's Kitchen, New York, but filmed in Los Angeles . ...
^ The new Daredevil doesn't even shoot in Hell's Kitchen because it doesn't look enough like Hell's Kitchen.
For me it's sighting Stargate and Battlestar Galactica actors. For example, any time I see Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol) or Alessandro Juliani (Gaeta) I know the show is filming in Canada.
Actually, they use a pretty substantial amount of CGI to "fix" locations in non-genre shows where you wouldn't really expect special effects.^ We do see a lot of clubs and homes with a certain look which is what made me assume it was L.A. Now I'm trying to think back at the location shooting.
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce is another show that's shot in Vancouver but takes place in L.A., as was The L Word. And The L.A. Complex and was shot in Toronto. All three are convincing as taking place in L.A.
It's amazing what you can get away with when you use the right locations, the right shots that don't show too much, warm lighting and carefully placed plants.
Trek should do well if they need to dress up the environment. And they've got good CGI to take care of the Vasquez Rocks.![]()
No, that was Vancouver, on the other end of the continent from Toronto. They're as far apart as Los Angeles and New York City. Vancouver is just north of Seattle, in a Pacific Northwest climate; Toronto is on the Great Lakes, close to Buffalo and Rochester, NY and not too far from Detroit (which is why so many RoboCop productions have shot there).

Yeah, Toronto has more in common with NYC.
They'll likely be using it as a stand-in for SanFran and Starfleet Academy in particular.
I remember when Fringe and Caprica were airing at the same time and they used the same building in Vancouver for Harvard and the school on Caprica. That really took me out of the show the first time they showed it.
