Fill a role with a TOS era actor

Surprisingly Robert Duvall was still doing episodic guest spots during Star Trek's run. I've been trying to think of a role that would have been good for him

Great clip to use...

I forgot the title, but that's from season 2 where Max and 99 were chasing some guy that turned out to use humans as sport. Many shows of the time used "The Most Dangerous Game" as plot fodder - even "Gilligan's Island" and "Lost in Space" and oddly enough, everyone used it well, which just goes to show how strong the original short story was... (TOS's version being arguably "The Squire of Gothos"...)

Star Trek TOS runs into
1966 Mandalorian:

Ricardo Montalbán(Khan) as Din Djarin
Barbara Luna(Marlena Moreau) as Cara Dune
William Marshall(Richard Daystrom) as Greef Carga
Nomad MK-15c as IG-11
Clint Howard(Balok) as Grogu
Yvonne Craig(Marta) as Ahsoka Tanno
Majel Barrett(Number One/Christine Chapel) as Bo-Katan
Percy Rodrigues(Commodore Stone) as Moff Gideon

Wait, ...Is that not how this works?;)

Might be type casting, but he could play Tracy. He's the same age as Shatner, so it might read different than Woodward, who was a few years older. .

Interesting but Duvall is only 5ft 9 which is closer to Shatner than Woodward who is much taller. I kind of like the fact that Captain Tracy was a bigger larger more intimidating figure than Kirk.

I'm seeing that Woodward was 6'3"!

I didn't know that but I suspected he was over six foot. The suggestion I used earlier of Robert Ryan surprised me when I found out Robert Ryan was six foot four. Although if we keep picking bigger and bigger actors for the role then it will become more unrealistic that Captain Kirk actually wins. LOL.
I can just see fans now -- "Oh come on, Kirk can't beat Captain Tracy when he's portrayed by Richard Kiel.!'

How about replacing the Bartender in "Trouble with Tribbles"
with Bill Cosby?

We already have Dear Doctor, Code of Honor, Threshold, Author Author, Prophet and Lace...why would you want to make another episode awkward to watch?

Kirk fu's about heart, not size.

If Bill Cosby's offscreen behavior would make one episode awkward,
wouldn't Gene Roddenberry's offscreen behavior make the entire franchise awkward?

They liked their Western actors tall in them days!

James Arness 6' 7"
Clint Walker 6' 6"
Chuck Connors 6' 5"
Andrew Duggan 6' 5"
Dan Blocker 6' 4"
Leif Erickson 6' 4"
John Russell 6' 3"
James Garner 6' 2"
Peter Breck 6' 2"
John Smith 6' 2"
William Smith 6' 2"
Ty Hardin 6' 2"
Richard Boone 6' 1"
Clayton Moore 6' 1"

OS guest and frequent Western actor Michael Forest was also 6' 3".

I know Gene was unfaithful, but do you know something else that I don't?
I know that there is no such thing as a perfect human being.
I know that if you cancel the good things done by beings who are not perfect
There will be nothing that will not be cancelled.
