Fighting a Borg Cube...

Did anyone every try beaming a photon torpedo or two aboard a Borg cube and detonating it? I seem to recall that being used against some enemy in some episode of some series. Picard and Janeway never seemed to have any problems beaming aboard a cube just to look around.

Voyager did that in Dark Frontier Pt. 1 didn't they to destroy a Borg scout ship after knocking down its shields didn't they?

Yeah... They chopped down a small Cube, then beamed a torpedo in - and then declared the whole assault a failure because they hadn't captured the Cube intact so that they could have pillaged it for Borg secrets. Janeway got sorta uppity about the Borg towards the later seasons...

Of course, that's more or less consistent with "Q Who?" where even a large Cube was shown to be vulnerable to a determined first strike. If you only face a single Cube, you can defeat it, or you can run from it. But the latter might be the smarter choice, because the destruction of a Cube is a perfect way to attract the full attention of the Borg.
