Fifth Movie

AdmiralBruno

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I had read that they had a script that Brent Spiner was part of and originally Paramount was going to do one more movie as a wrap-up, but decided not to. Why is that? Is anyone else really disappointed by this? I know "all good things" must come to an end.... but it would've been a nice send-off. The ending of Nemesis is sort of conclusive, but still.

NEM was a box office flop now that alone perhaps wouldn't be a reason not to do another film but I think with ENT tanking in the ratings as well they simply felt the market wasn't there.

If the next movie had been a return to what made TNG so amazing then I'd have wanted to see it but I think it was more than obvious by the time Nemesis flopped that the writers were incapable of bringing the old spark back. First Contact is the only TNG film that was worth making even if the others had a few moments that were okay. I hate how it all ended on a downer but there's no guarantee a 5th movie wouldn't have been even worse so it was probably best to call it a day.

Like I've always thought... TNG should have ended with 'All Good Things...', not (only) because the movies sucked (sorry) but it was such a great ending, Enterprise just flies into the unknown while the main cast is at a card table...

And for ME, it does end with 'All Good Things...', I don't watch the films... they are just not near as good as TNG at it's best.

Nemesis is (for all its flaws) still my favorite TNG era movie. But even I could see that there was no follow up in sight. :)

I think Spiner's interests were to boost more DATA for that proposed film, something I thought TNG film needed less of. If the 5th film was approved, what would the film be about? TNG films strayed so far away from the series and made it a bang em, explosive movies with no substance. TNG series was all about substance, it's what I wanted in those dreadful films.

The ending of NEM was conclusive and a downer, but that's that. Characters killed should stay killed. That's reality and it really is important. Spock got a pass, not TSFS was great for it. Further what, is Data's katra supposed to be a computer virus that overruns B-4, leaving him a ghost program running in the background of his own body?

Spiner had issues with playing Data given how old he was looking. Data was supposed to be an ageless machine apparently, and looked much the same decades ahead in "All Good Things..." only with a dyed streak of gray in his hair. I can see why that was an issue for Spiner especially given that Data in the movies was more childlike than ever, and cheesy comic relief to boot - "flotation device" indeed. They did not have the character mature emotionally as he did in "All Good Things..."(!) so, yeah, I can see Spiner thinking a middle-aged man shouldn't be pretending he doesn't have jowls and playing in haystacks with children.

A mature DATA from :"All Good Things..." would've been a pleasant addition to ST: Generations. Making Data this unstrung asshole didn't make the film any better. The more Data was seen, the more out of character it became.

Dreadful movies?

First Contact was not only a great movie.... it might be the best science fiction movie ever made... or pretty damn close to it. How ANYONE could put that down I don't get it. We saw all the demons Picard had been carrying since TBOBW boil to the surface, and it was just amazing in so many ways.

I loved The Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home too, but FC is at least up there with those.

I thought Generations had a certain charm to it. I also enjoyed Nemesis. Insurrection was a plot suitable for an episode of the show, and was really boring as a movie. Only ST V with its fake God was a worse movie than that.

If someone likes TNG movies, go right ahead. I just can't stand them, mainly because they are so far away from what TNG series was.

You are probably the kind of person who finds Blade Runner entertaining.

It was a REALLY, REALLY boring movie.

BillJ had the nerve to insult First Contact.

Critics AND fans alike loved it.

You have bad taste in movies if you dislike FC
