FIFA corruption arrests

I'm shocked to hear there's corruption at FIFA (said no one ever)

I see Blatter still manages to keep his nose clean. For how long though?

For the time being, it is possible that should prosecution be forthcoming that some might plea bargin for a lesser sentance and further arrest could be made.

Not that it'll happen but I think FIFA basically needs to get rid of the old guard and try and rebuild confidnece in it's governance. Whilst some of the national associations might have confidence in it does the average person on the street?

Blatter appears to be untouchable...

Maradona calls him `Dictator for life´.

The WC Final in Qatar is planned to be just before X-mas.

You have the same problem with the Olympic Games in Rio. The swimming competitions will be `in the middle of the night´ according to German daytime. The tv ratings will be low. Most important thing is that the Americans can see their athletes prime time........

You always get that with these big international competitions. Sometimes the times don't suit certain countries.

The thing about the corrupt is that, if they’re smart, they collect dirt on everyone else they can parley for a lesser sentence if caught. Let’s hope this is just the beginning.

At least this time Blatter can’t claim it’s a UK media conspiracy.

The yanks want them on racketeering charges, which is serious business.

I imagine if any of them have any dirt on blatter they'd give it up for immunity

If that withered old snake manages to STILL win re-election after all this and then shakes his fist and says "Leave the FIFA family alone!" or something, I swear....

Remember that scene at the end of Lord of the Rings when Frodo throws the Ring into the volcano and the tower in Mordor collapses into a huge hole? That's what needs to happen to FIFA now.

If those idiots at FIFA still hold the election on Friday, and those even bigger idiots in all the African football associations that back Blatter sweep him into another term, all this is just a big joke. For this to mean anything, the election should be stopped, Qatar and Russia should be stripped of the WC, and a massive restructuring of the governing body needs to happen.

Anyone who had even the slightest idea of what FIFA is and how it run and says with a straight face they are shocked by these allegations is either:

1. Stupid

2. In on it

Well maybe some changes will be made so FIFA can be run with the integrity of American sports organizations like the NBA and the NFL.

Some of it appears to be related to the World Cup being given to South Africa. I was actually glad Africa finally got it.

Things got very fishy with Russia and Qatar though

Yes please

I don't think there was anything fishy about Qatar. It made perfect sense for FIFA to give the World Cup to a tiny, but very rich, nation located in the Middle East.

They just didn't notice the fact that during the summer, when the World Cup would be played in outdoor stadiums, that a desert region like Qatar becomes hot as hell.

Really though that's a mistake anyone could easily make.

We can but hope !

Anyhow :

The Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization Act is the biggest gun in the arsenal for fighting organized crime, which it would appear FIFA is. The penalties are very severe. Don't be surprised if some of the accused go, or try to go, state's evidence. However, considering the size of the fish that have been netted so far, I don't see anyone getting too much of a break unless they have some very compelling dirt on Blatter.
