Female musicians

My favorite Proggy female fronted band is Coheed and Cambria.

That Claudia Sanchez chick has an awesome voice and she isn't half bad at guitar either :)

Claudio Sanchez...
I also thought the singer was female, since it's such a high voice, but it's a dude...

I want some scandanavian female fronted wildly progressive rock

Is that all?

I can't imagine why you're having trouble finding any.

Last time I went to the HMV flagship store in Toronto, I must have seen dozens of bands in the "scandanavian female fronted wildly progressive rock" section.

Haha, yeah, I knew it was a dude all along, though it's not out of the realm of possibility I would've gotten it wrong. I think I hadn't heard anything from them until someone linked me to "Welcome Home", which apparently gave my a male enough vibe.

I think the only time I actually got the gender wrong is with "Silversun Pickups"... I heard that Lazy Eye song so many times and never even suspected that it was a dude. Then I saw an acoustic live version or something on YouTube and it blew my mind.

Oh sweet, got any youtube links to any of Tina Turner's prog-metal performances?

Gwen Stephani?
Diana Ross?
Tina Turner?
of course Aretha Franklin?(sp)
Etta James?
(?)

:wtf:

How do any of those fit with the type of thing th OP was asking for? Did you even read the thread?

I wouldn't mind hearing some of Aretha Franklin's work in that Scandinavian prog-rock band.

Not being a fan of metal, thrash, or even prog rock I'm only here for anything female and scandinavian.

good but...but is there a female meshuggah?

Ehm, if that means, do they song in a grunting low voice...
Try Abnormality...

So many things that are annoying and/or wrong in the original post it's not even worth responding to...

Seriously, are there any female musicians who play progressive thrash metal or progressive rock/metal. You see when I hear about female musicians in the media they seem to follow a typecast thing of either being folk singers or electro clash artists who are optionally kooky and it just bores and dissapoints me in that it seems that these are almost the genres they're confined to playing in and they have to be quirky etc even though its pretty fake. What I would like to see are progressive metal female musicians, this would be totally different and cool as folk, singersongwriter and electronica genres are crap.

Well, a guy I talk to sometimes on another message board named Dave Starr who used to be in Vicious Rumors has a new project called Wildstarr with a female vocalist who's really awesome. It's good power/prog/hard rock/metal type stuff.
http://www.wildestarr.com/

And of course there's Arch Enemy. Other than that, I don't know. I don't actively seek out metal bands with chicks in them. 9 times out of ten it's either some kind of poseur-ish metalcore nonsense or some kind of gimmick(Ooooh, look, she's all tough and scary.).
