If someone wants a dog, they should get a dog
Not necessarily. Dogs are sloppier, more dangerous, harder to care for, and far fewer landlords are willing to allow them. So if you're not into all of that, then a very personable cat is the best choice.

Oh, I love doggies and kitties both, and would be happy with either. I usually consider myself a dog person, but more and more I've been thinking about being owned by a kitteh.
As much as I think that piece is biased against cats--I LOVE IT. 
This little sweetheart isn't mine, but definitely exemplifies the "doglike cat" type of cat personality.

Here are two of my cats, my boys, sleeping next to a toy cat 
They are both 10 years old. They are complete mushes, you can pick 'em up, dance around the room with them, squeeze them, kiss them.. and they don't do anything but purr.

Nerys, I played your video and my own Maine Coon, Junior, came running up the stairs and jumped on my desk! He's trying to find the other kitty.
I was wondering if that would happen! 
They are brothers from different litters and presumably different fathers. Their mother was my favorite ever cat. Just big tabbies

They are ripe for snuggles!
When I was in college, I named my two goldfish Dog and Cat. Unfortunately, I didn't realize I needed to keep their bowl out of direct sunlight.
