Feline Follies

So my wife took Wednesday to the vet yesterday to start everything up. Vaccinations, deworming, chipping, fixing, etc.

The doctor came in and told her they weren't going to proceed with the vaccinations. Wednesday has Feline Leukemia. She's never been around other cats since we got her, so she must have gotten it from her mother.

My wife and I are absolutely gutted. Waiting to find out what type she has, but if her immune response was going to take care of it, the doctor said she would have done so by now.

I never would have imagined myself loving a dumb fuzzball as much as I love this cat. I am crushed at the possibility of her dying at 2 or 3 instead of 15-16. 85% of infected cats die before 3.

:weep:

Sadly, we don't always get to choose how long someone, or something, we love is with us.

When my parents lost "Ripples" at 16 to kidney failure, they adopted a very sweet, playful and smart male cat they named "Tiger" (similar fur pattern, wrong colors). They only had him for about one year and he was hit by a car...

Their last cat is still around after both of them have gone - "Missy" is with me now and about 17. Still going strong too.

Key thing, enjoying life with those you love while you can. Making them happy and comfortable - works on you as well.

Yes, he's doing much better. For a good seven or eight days, he was really sick. The vet couldn't find anything wrong and suspected pancreatitis. We changed his food and just babied him, giving him all kinds of cat food, trying to get him to eat.

It was a rollercoaster --one day he seemed to be better and the next, he would barely move. We eliminated tuna cat food and gave him sensitive- stomach cat food, along with chicken canned food. He's doing really well now and eating like a champ.
