Tho cats do manage to make things disappear fairly often, usually under the fridge or couch.
I would leave the carrier out all the time, sometimes taking the door off, so the cat could use it as a resting place. Had one cat, Mickey, who would go into the carrier when I told him "Let's go!" Was moving from California to Illinois and when it was time to leave, I started looking around for him. Finally found him in the carrier all ready to go.
