Feline Follies

We have 112 outside today. We are not used to this kind of heat. It is a record for our area. And of course we don't have AC. Our poor kitty! She is older and I worry about her. She is not happy with me right now. I took away her nice warm beds and put down towels and blankets instead. And we put ice cubes in her water dish. She has her own little fan which she didn't like at first but now loves. And we have been rubbing her down with cool wet towels. Which she only complains a little so I know it feels good. She does not eat much and drinks a lot. She does not seem to go potty much so I think she just needs the water. I am wondering what you all do for your cats and if you don't have AC when it gets super hot out. I have heard of people shaving their cats, but I think that is over doing it. Anyway, a hot kitty says a very lazy tired meow!

We live in Florida so AC is a must. My cat would look really goofy if we shaved her.

We live in Texas so the A/C is almost always on, and we have ceiling fans running all the time, too. For the few times the power has gone out, Junior retreated to the shaded areas of the house and we mixed cold water into his canned food. Keep the fan on her, have cool water, and keep her in shaded areas. You might try putting a small hand towel in the freezer for a few minutes--just to make it cold; don't freeze it solid--- and then put it in her kitty bed or drape it over her--we used to do that with our dogs.

You do whatever you have to, to keep her comfy. Kitties do seem to be able to adapt though - they live in a wide range of environments on this little rock of ours...
