^ It sounds like this is the issue. Apparently most browsers don't respect the exif tags by default. Although apparently Safari on iOS does, so that may be why your pictures look OK on people's phones.
I use Firefox, and if I right-click on the image and select "view image" to look at the original jpeg, then it displays correctly... but when it displays inline through HTML, it doesn't. I don't know if other browsers exhibit the same behaviour or not.

Thank you. I will try to turn them later today if work is slow enough to play. The work compy is windows so don’t know if that will complicate matters. I might wait until hubs fires up the Mac at home - I can’t be arsed to remember any of the passwords and I’m always afraid of mucking about on his desktop. Brackets and all his fish and sports BBSs and such.
