Yep. I had the startling realization that he could still very well be around when I turn 50! I grew up with cats, more than a dozen in my first 18 years (we had up to 5 at a time). Most lived to late teens and a couple up to 20!
After 2.5 years of having her in our home, the other week our female cat finally deigned to accept my existence. She sat on me and let me brush her.
Seems Rune gives good brush. Whenever I walk into their room (yes, the cats have co-opted my "boys room") she jumps up onto the chair the Zoom-Groom is kept and meows.

No, and I enjoy owning two hands so will likely never venture so far.

I discovered yesterday that Glasgow likes belly rubs! Poor little dude is sick though; they warned me at the shelter that it's really common for shelter cats to come down with upper respiratory infections and to keep an eye out for it. Indeed, he started sneezing and became lethargic so we went to the vet and now he's on an antibiotic.
I put signs on both sides of the apartment door that say "Mind the cat," as no one is used to having a cat in the home. My roommate said they made him think of the "Mind the gap" warnings on the underground, and lo and behold, THEY MAKE A DOORMAT! So of course I bought it.

@thestrangequark - congratulations on your new arrival. If you don't mind my asking, what made you choose the name Glasgow?
It turned out to be great quality! You should totally get it.^It's now on my Wishlist.
I was struggling to come up with a name that suited him all day, and just happened to be listening to the Proclaimers, which made me think of Scotland, and that made me think of Glasgow, and it just suits him so well!

So, I am probably bonkers, but we're having the back garden done and I saw a very small dog kennel on discount at a pet shop and thought... "put that in the shaded bit by the dining area, a bowl of water, a bit of bedding and Presto... outdoor housing for the cats!?" They have a cat flap so can come/go as they please into the house, but thought they might like a cosy small space in the garden too... stupid idea?
