So very sorry, @DarrenTR1970 . You gave her a good and loving home. Losing a pet is so very hard. Allow yourself to grieve for awhile.
I'm so sorry for your loss Darren. Now that I've had a chance to process it. . .
Zoe had been lethargic the last week or so, rarely leaving her bed, and hardly getting up to eat or move around; then two days ago she stopped eating, but she was still sipping water from her bowl.
So, I made an appointment with a local vet to come in and have her examined after work tomorrow.
Tonight, while I was getting ready for bed, she started having difficulty breathing.
I called the 24-hour emergency vet and they said bring her in right away; so, I loaded her into her crate and hurried to the vet.
As I pulled into the parking lot, she suddenly stopped breathing.
The veterinarian rushed her into the emergency room where attempted to resuscitate and draw blood and begin an I.V., but she was suffering from complete organ failure and her veins collapsed and they couldn't hear any breathing coming from her lungs because they were filling up with fluid.
Zoe died on the operating table shortly before midnight.
Without an autopsy to determine cause of death, the veterinarian could only speculate; it could have been a virus, a stroke, or a hemorrhage or any number of things. At least it was quick.
The veterinarians were kind enough to leave me alone with her until she was cold, then I handed her off to them and signed the paperwork consenting to her cremation.
I'll get her ashes in a few weeks.
It's going to be lonely this Christmas.
