Superheros! Now here's a topic I can do justice to! I've actually got several ideas. To start with:

More to come...

Thunderously,

Ok so I got to do some more work on this. Behold!

CAPTAIN FEDERATION!

Ok, so its a bald faced rip-off of Captain America. But I have a couple other ideas too. I'll see how this plays out.

Shamelessly,

--Alex

And here I have inked Captain Federation.

I didn't like the left hand I drew before, so this one is different. I like it better, but I still don't think it's great. I'm not sure how happy I am with how the shield turned out in ink either. I'll probably redraw it to appear smoother and more "round" in Photoshop when I color it. There are a couple other things here and there I intend to fix in Photoshop too. Hopefully I'll get time to color it tonight, or if not, in the next week.

Cheers,

--Alex

Okay, so here's am in progress image:

This is just the flat colors so you can have an idea of the palette I'm using on this guy. Also, you can see the redrawn shield, besides a couple other little details that might be harder to pick out which I managed to spruce up a bit.

Well, off to the real coloring....

Busily,

--Alex

Allrighty then. This may be the final version of Captain Federation.

Comments? Critiscisms? I'll have to look at this a while before I know if I'm happy with it. But I like it so far. I do have another character idea or two, but I have to figure them out.

Curiously,

--Alex

That's pretty awesome! I almost wish he had the 'UFP' from the banner on his forehead rather than the 'F' just for the sake of the banner design but it's still awesome. :)

^^^ Yeah, i thought about a UFP belt buckle but then I thought about the belt buckle on the admiral's uniform in DS9 and had second thoughts. It always struck me that maybe he won it at a rodeo or something.

I do have another idea here. A slightly different direction than I originally thought of for other characters. And if I finish it in time for the and of the month, it will meet the letter of Ptrope's format requirements, even if it may be slightly stretched...

^^^
All right, looks like family life has conspired to prevent much work on this project. I'll go a much simpler route than I had hoped. Hopefully I'll get it done by Friday. (Our wedding anniversary is this weekend so no last minute art projects this time!)

It's becoming harder and harder to decide who to vote for this month. :scream:

Great job, Albertese! ;)

Okay, so here's a friend for Captain Federation. My idea I didn't have time for was to actually draw a few pages from the origin comic, which would include this character, Lieutenant Buckley. But once it became clear that I wouldn't come near finishing that by the deadline, I just decide to include this character on the comics cover.

I wanted to set this guy in the 2250's and tie him into a "Four Years War" story I've been slowly thinking about over the past few years. (4YW is the apocryphal conflict that took place between the Klingons and Federation prior to Kirk's tenor as Enterprise CO. It's detailed in the old FASA RPG, but I'm taking it in a different direction.) The young lady's costume is meant to suggest "The Cage" era equipment. And yes, we all know there were miniskirts in that era, but Captain Pike ordered pants for all the women to keep that dirty old Doc Boyce from chasing skirt all voyage.

Hopefully I'll have the finished product tonight!

--Alex

HA! USS Pontiac it is! Actually I hadn't thought about it, and I didn't even think of the car logo when I was drawing it. But that's awesome.

All righty. So here goes. Given the time limit I guess this the finished product. I had initially imagined them walking through a cave of some sort, but the green light is cool and mysterious too.

His origins:

During the first few months of the Four Years War things were going very badly for the Federation. The destruction of Starbase 8 made war the only acceptable response for many members of the UFP, but several worlds, headed by Vulcan, felt the situation called for more diplomacy and less wanton destruction. The Vulcans were threatening to secede from the Federation and Starfleet's options were very limited.

Phil Fredrickson, captain of the USS Pontiac was lost on a planet of ancient ruins near the Arcanis Sector. There, his ship was fought off by Klingons and had to retreat. After over a month of fighting, the Pontiac returned to try to find Captain Fredrickson. They returned having found only a tricorder which the Captain had recorded his last will and testament as well as a letter to his family. What wasn't on the official report was that Lieutenant Kim Buckley found the Captain alive! When he and his party had been wounded in the first place, there was little hope. The crew all eventually died except Captain Fredrickson, who managed to find shelter in an ancient ruined arena. In the arena, he discovered the still functioning remains of a medical center designed to tend to the alien gladiators of the distant past. The device healed the captain's wounds. And more! He was made triple the strength of an ordinary man! His stamina and agility improved as much! The time-worn machines were made to manufacture colorful armored costumes and equipment for the now long dead combatants. Fredrickson used them to create a new costume and build a shield emblazoned with the image of the stars he would defend. When confronted by Lt. Buckley, who began to lecture him that his order did not include single-handedly waging war against the Klingons, the Captain's response was, "Sometimes duty outweighs orders." He gave her his last instructions to declare him dead and to deliver the tricorder to his wife and daughters which explained to them what he must do.

Hope you enjoy!
