    Okay, let's try this:

"Tomorrow is Yesterday": The Walter M. Jefferies Memorial Challenge!

"What's this?" You ask? I shall explain.

Okay, we all know that Matt Jefferies designed the Enterprise for the original series. You probably also know that before he worked on Star Trek he was an aviation artist. With those things in mind, I have decided that with this challenge we should honor his contributions to both science fiction and aviation.

Therefore, your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to depict one or more contemporary fighter aircraft attempting to intercept TOS Enterprise in the air, a la the first act of "Tomorrow is Yesterday". Now, by "contemporary" I mean any real life, recognizable fighter, so you have a lot of leeway. Just no Jem'Hadar fighters or anything like that. Any real fighter made between the time of the Wright Brothers and the first flight of the Joint Strike Fighter is what I'm looking for.

The usual rules apply: end of the month is the end of the contest. Make sure you send your entries to Ptrope by email when they're completed. I'm sure the usual reminder to create a new project for the contest is unecessary, since I sincerely doubt any of us already has something like this lying around (of course, only you and your portfolios know for sure ;)).

That's it. Get creating! ("There's a UFO on the radar! Scramble! Scramble!")

This sounds pretty good. I think I'll try an entry- for the first time. Are composite images allowed? I have a couple of really neat images that would look cool.

If composite images aren't allowed, I can draw it.

Okay- anyway this isn't anything really artistic. This of course is similar to the episode, but I wanted to see the pilot and and another plan in the same shot.

So- Two CF-18 Hornets dispatched to intercept an Unidentified Object.

The image comes from Skycontrol.net so I can't take any credit for that. The Enterpise in the upper left corner is just a little model picture.

 That's awesome! I don't see any problem with you making that your official entry if you want, though I guess Ptrope will be the final judge on that score.

I'd suggest starting your own thread and posting your images there. Everyone is free to enter, but keep in mind that all entries must be e-mailed to ptrope at gmail dot com by midnight, GMT, Feb. 28 to be included in the final poll, and only one final entry per person.

Other than that, knock yourself out :bolian:.

Only thing about this challenge that bugs me is it has to be "fighter aircraft". Shame really. It really limits what you can do with it.

True, but the point of the challenge is to evoke the first act of TIY, which depicts a fighter craft chasing Enterprise through the air. It's a limitation, but only because it's what's depicted in canon.

Don't worry. It's not like everybody is following the challenge parameters to the letter. One entry has the ship being followed by MiG-31 Firefoxes (not real aircraft), while another is a great shot of Big E in low orbit over the moon being spotted by Gene Cernan, which was great, but has jack to do with the contest as defined.

So if you want to show Enterprise contrasted with a Boeing 777 or something, I guess that's okay.

It's ok, I found another offbeat way of interpreting it. :)
