Favourite & worst Trek series finale

I'm sure this query has been posed before, but I really, REALLY enjoy reading every response. I appreciate EVERYONE'S opinion and thoughts, so please, keep them coming. Anyway..back to the matter at hand.....what was your favourite Trek series finale? Mine would be DS9's "What we leave behind". There was such a good sense on closure in that episode and was a tear jerky for me seeing Jake look into space wondering where his father is and when and if he'll come back. TNG's "All good things..." is a close second, but a great finale ending with "The sky's the limit" quote from Picard foreshadowing new adventures to come. My least favourite if not hated, is, of course, Enterprise's "These are the voyages...". I'm pretty sure no explanation is needed on this one. :scream: I have a follow up thread in the TOS section about a TOS series finale.....in case anyone's interested.

Favourites.... "All Good Things" followed by "Endgame" (I know many loathe "Endgame", but I enjoyed it a lot)

Least favourite.... "These Are The Voyages" (guarenteed to get the most negative votes in this thread)

I've got to give this to TATV over Endgame, OS gets a bye because it did have a finale in the sense we calss TATV, AGT, WYLB etc..

Worst: These Are The Voyages, because it killed the series (and Trip) right when it was really picking up.

Best: Endgame. Because it killed the series. 'Nuff said. ;)

In order from favorite to least favorite, with asterisks symbolzing the leaps in quality:

What You Leave Behind
*
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
*
All Good Things...
***
Endgame

These Are The Voyages

Fav: All Good Things

Worst: These Are The Voyages followed closely by EndShame

What he said. :) :bolian:

Turnabout Intruder, Endgame, and These Are The Voyages are all pretty terrible.

As far as the shows go, only DS9 and TNG have good finishes, and both of those are excellent.

Undiscovered Country is pretty great though, and I tend to prefer thinking of it as the end of TOS instead of the last episode of the show. TNG is a weird case since I think both AGT and First Contact make good stopping points.

What You Leave Behind is unquestionably my favorite of the lot, and the most well-done.

Worst: Turnabout Intruder because in the grand scheme of things this was simply the last episode, not a finale.

Favorite: All Good Things hands down.

Best: All Good Things...
Worst: Endgame.

Unsurprisingly, the best Trek series has the best finale and the worst series has the worst finale.

Nope. The honor for both best end AND best series is DS9. The (dis)honor for worst END goes to TATV, while the worst SERIES goes to Voyager.

I'll go against the grain and say I liked These Are the Voyages Better than EndGame

Endgame was simply awful. Truly. They could have done anything they wanted and we end up with a "have cake and eat it too" big cheat.

With Engame, the badness became out of the fact that they couldn't do whatever they wanted. The story was rushed not just because it was only an hour, but from a budget POV and the need to end all of modern Trek. Sure, they could, even still, picked a better story, but there were a lot of scenes where the friendships really came out.

Through it all, they still wrote a few effective scenes. The hug between Archer and T'Pol was very affecting. And Trip's last scene (which nicely came after his death) was just awesome.

So, to me it's just that I prefer the characters more as well. I can pull moments out of that finale to latch onto. And having Riker there might not hold up if over-examined, but theirs a novelty to it, something I admire that is lost when placed under the microscope of scrutiny, a charm that I don't want to go away.

What You Leave Behind

Not that I dislike All Good Things, but I've never understood the extreme love for it a lot of people have. Half the finale is just nonsense technobabble that makes zero sense.

And Picard has to open his mind to some amazing theory, which is essence is that the anomoly moves backward in time rather than forwads. Wow, is that really such an earth shattering revelation?
Also the Pasteur explodes causing the anomoly, its moving backwards through time, and then they say "let's go back to the Devron System and see the birth of it." Sorry, maybe I've just misunderstood the episode all this time, but by that logic it's moving forward in time like everything else would. That part makes zero sense to me.

All Good Things was a a plot-driven ending to a plot-driven series. However good TNG was, it rarely was allowed to become Great because the characters were generally not allowed to advance or develop (save Worf, once the producers saw how popular Klingons were, and even then his REAL character growth didn't come until DS9).

I'm tired of character growth and development.

That was one of the greatest things about David Mack's "Vanguard" series.

For the most part, the characters didn't grow jack.

In this order...

All Good Things... (powerful episode in any universe) *
What You Leave Behind... (epic finale to an incredible story arc) *
Star Trek VI... (this counts and was a fitting final adventure for the TOS crew)
Endgame... (as much as this one sucked, at least it tried not to)
These are the Voyages... (whoever's idea this was should be demoted to pooper scooper)

*= These two were close and it's a hard choice between the two for me.

Just to nitpick, isn't a bit unfair to choose All Good Things and then choose Star Trek VI?

If you're gonna include VI in this, then by default shouldn't you have to say Star Trek Nemesis instead of All Good Things?

...which I can imagine a lot people won't :D

I'm not sure anyone who actually likes TNG hates themselves enough to think of Nemesis as its finale.
