For the live action TOS, either Spock or McCoy. But I'm also a fan of Chapel and Romaine.

For the animated series, definitely those slug-things with the elephant trunks. I want one of those.

Gotta be Spock for me. When it was just TOS, he was popular for a lot of reasons - one of which was that he gave the social misfits in the audience (like me) someone to identify with.

Of course, as some have pointed out, the main characters are all improved by their interaction. Indeed, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy (and sometimes the others) can be seen as different aspects of one persona, or as symbolic "family members" that make up one functioning family.

Can't choose one because Kirk, Spock, and McCoy were so essential to Star Trek. By choosing one would disrespect the others. It's not TNG where there's truly 1 fav for me and that's Picard. The series lived and died with him -- sorry Data fans it's true.

Star Trek Generations was proof in the pudding how odd to see Kirk without Spock and Bones; that's how tight they were. Although I felt these characters could be installed in any variant Trek spinoff and shine but when I think of one character, I automatically think of the rest.

Spock but I agree you can't have one without the other. He needs Kirk and McCoy as contrast at least. ;)

I'm thinking my favourite guest star is a tos-up between Khan and Edith.

Excuse me (In my best Shatneresque voice) but when did Yeoman Rand actually appear in TAS? I'm on a second watch of the show right now and I haven't seen her in the sixteen I've viewed and don't remember her in any of the last six either!

PS. Or Chekov for that matter...

She didn't, neither did Chekov...except possibly for one brief shot in one episode (likely due to a missed memo noting he was to be excluded).

Honestly, I don't know. I would assume it was whichever episode that first had bridge scene cels completed and ready to be photographed.. Plus, the bit I read (I forget where) could have been a hoax. It's so bloody easy for things to be "faked" . But given all the technical gaffs that appeared, like Chapel having a red sleeve on an otherwise blue micro-dress, M'Ress getting the bridge of her nose painted black, Klingon appearing "in front" of the main viewer instead of "upon" it, then it seems an errant shot of Chekov might be possible as well.

EDIT: Ah, I found a "source".

Given the figure in the shot is wearing a "service division" tunic instead of "command" (notice how I avoided stating colors?) and the generic features upon the face, it could be argued this was probably just a nameless "redshirt". But Eisner's quote states otherwise. Make of it what you will.

HaHaHa I did notice yes, Redfern! But I wouldn't say the guy sitting next to Sulu was Chekov! For one he was not wearing a command divisional uniform and the other he was far too tall! Sulu and Chekov were of similar build in the series I would say!

I can't believe my man Scotty only received 5 votes! I love all the TOS characters, as it takes each one of them to make the series what it is, but Montgomery Scott is a man among men IMO! :luvlove:

I'm gonna cheat. I vote The Triumvirate -- Kirk, Spock, McCoy. It's hard for me to parse those characters into "favorites." Their greatness so often came through in their association.
