Favourite TOS Episode

Arena or The Apple. I like fun episodes. Devil in the dark is pretty awesome too. To be honest though I pretty much love every episode of TOS and TAS. Except for ones that take place in modern-ish times or on planets that have cultures similar to modern-ish earth.

My favourite episode is "Journey to Babel".

It's not my nominee for best episode ("Balance of Terror" and "The Devil in the Dark" fight that one out), but it's my favourite. "Balance" is only a fraction behind it, though.

While I didn't mention them as top 5 episodes, having watched them again recently, I think I should include "Mirror, Mirror", "The Naked Time" and "The Enemy Within" as favourites as well. Here are three episodes that on paper sound so cheesy and yet they're actually marvelously entertaining with delightfully campy performances by all involved and surprisingly clever and dramatic writing. Kirk yelling at Spock is always awesome, but especially in "The Naked Time" and "This Side of Paradise". "Mirror, Mirror" is actually pretty intense for an episode based on such a wacky high concept, and Evil Kirk in both this episode and "The Enemy Within" is Shatner at his over-the-top best. One way the original Star Trek clearly overshadows The Next Generation is in starting off strong. Just a few episodes in, they had some of their greatest and most memorable episodes, while TNG took two seasons to reach its highest quality.

Devil In The Dark is my favorite. A Taste of Armageddon is pretty close behind. It's hard to pick because there are so many great episodes, particularly during the Gene Coon era.

It depends upon my mood. But I'm right partial to "Balance of Terror" since I'm a great fan of the Romulans. :vulcan:

Say, me too. :rommie:

I'll have to say 'The Corbomite Maneuver' not only because it has almost everything I want in a TOS ep (exploration, a funky alien ship, a funky alien, bickering amongst the crew, and a twist) and also because it was the first episode I had on VHS as a kid and as such got rewatched a lot.

My TOS favorites have changed over the years... until now, where I can't say that there's one I'd take over all the others. In fact, all I can say is which ones I didn't like. A majority of the episodes each have their own merits that add to the whole experience of Star Trek... Taking just one episode without the rest just doesn't work for me. :)

Because I grew up with TOS, it has a special meaning... that memory rooted in childhood, I think. However, in general TNG was a superior work. Excellent cast and crew, writing, plus amazing special effects. There are definite episodes that stand out... but that's a whole other sub-forum. ;)

Anyone else think in addition to being a great episode, "Balance of Terror" has the best title too? It's not something really literal or a reference to anything like so many episode titles are...just a really catchy and original phrase. Even sounds like a cool name for a movie.

One favorite? Come on, that's impossible.

I would probably narrow it down to : A Taste Of Armageddon, The Doomsday Machine, Mirror Mirror, Shore Leave, and The Enterprise Incident.

Ask me in few days and you'll probably get a different answer.

Wow so many can I have some time to think about this *wanders off*.
