Favourite Mentor? Yoda, Gandalf, Kenobi, Dumbledore, Merlin?

Favorite Mentor

I can't decide between Yoda, Dumbledore, and Gandalf... three of my all time favorite fictional characters. Hmm, guess I'll go with Dumbledore. Best dialogue. In the books, anyway ;)

BTW, in the interests of fairness I couldn't actually make my mind up. I voted late and only did so so I could see the results in the thread.

Yes. I was too lazy to click.

I voted Merlin, but Gandalf and Yoda were close seconds. My issue with Dumbeldore is that he continued to hide information from Harry, even after repeatedly seeing the problems caused by not telling Harry the truth.

I voted for Obi-Wan Kenobi, although I'm more of a fan of the Ewan McGregor version than the Alec Guinness version. (It's because I kinda look like McGregor back when he had the Jedi mullet in Attack of the Clones.)

But in some ways, I've been thinking about more unconventional, reluctant mentors, like Doyle from Angel.
DOYLE: "It's about reaching out to people."
BEGGAR: "Spare some change?"
DOYLE: "Get a job, you lazy cow!"

Well, he sure didn't mentor Rocky "the pussy" Red Ranger all that well, did he?

Now, Jason on the otherhand...

 Remember the Power Rangers Zeo episode where Jason had come back as the Gold Ranger and Rocky was all depressed & angry because he thought that no one liked him anymore? Despite what the end of the episode might want us to believe, I think it's clear that Rocky was right!:p No one liked Rocky. The doors to the Power Chamber even closed right in front of his face just to spite him!

Oh, come on. Like any of these imitations hold a candle to the original magical mentor himself, a character who's survived in literature for almost a thousand years, Merlin the Magician.

Gandalf - both Yoda and ObiWan were too manipulative in the original trilogy for my liking, and in TPM I frankly could have force-pushed the "younger" Yoda out of the council chamber...

As for the rest, well I don't really know about them (unless you count the Disney version of Merlin from Sword in the Stone...) :D

Where the hell is the Darth Sidious option? The original badass who wiped out the Jedi, trained one of the most feared Sith Lords and had a ball destroying the Senate?

I must admit, I also have a soft spot for old Ben Kenobi.
