Exactly what it says on the tin. Also as well as voting can you list your choices on your post in descending order, best first, worst last;

1) Aliens-yay!:techman:
2) Alien-hot damn!:bolian:
3) Alien4-yeah ok:)
4) Alien vs Predator-meh:cardie:
5) Alien vs Predator; Requiem-jeez!

and a lllllloooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
way after that;
6) Alien 3-what were they thinking?

I haven't seen any of the Alien vs Predator movies, but out of the 4 I did see - I can't disagree more on Alien 3, I loved it, and it's on par with Aliens as my favorite.

But I really hated Alien Resurrection (aka Alien 4), it was completely unnecessary after Ripley's sacrifice in Alien 3, it doesn't even feature Ellen Ripley but another character - a clone of her - and most importantly, it was one of the worst examples of the 'cool' dialogue that I hate so much in movies - you know, when characters find moments to say funny one-liners in the unlikeliest of moments, say, when they're in deadly danger. (It's something that Joss Whedon generally seems to have a tendency for.)

Alien > Aliens > Alien 3 ... > AVP > Alien 4

Haven't seen AVP:R. From everything I've read, I don't think I need to.

That staggers me. Most people who like Alien 3 say that they love Alien and didn't like the whole different direction James Cameron took the series in (essentially Alien3 is the lousy sequal that most people expected to Alien, Ripley is shipwrecked with a facehugger running about, you could easily just omit Aliens and got directly from the 1st film to the 3rd). How can you enjoy Alien 3 when it destroys your enjoyment of Aliens?

AvP;R is pretty terrible but you should watch it just for the sake of completeness (makes the companies action in Alien more understandable if nothing else)

Alien - Alien 3 - Aliens - Alien Resurrection.

I enjoyed the "devil in the dark," claustrophobic feel of the original and 3. Aliens was OK, but it was just too much "bug hunting" for me. I felt that killing off Hicks and Newt was keeping in line with the sense of futility that permeated 3, but it did make Aliens seem like an utter waste of time for Ripley. Again, keeps up the sense of futlity, but I think it went a little too far. Throw her a bone, for crying out loud.

Resurrection was just so weird that it was fascinating in an odd way.

I don't even consider the Predator movies part of the whole Alien franchise and that's why I didn't include those in the rating.

I saw AVP and thought it was a complete waste of time. Never saw AVPR.

1) Aliens (one of, if not the, best action movies ever made)
2) Alien Resurrection (good blend of action and survival horror, despite some misteps)
3) Alien (the original, good suspense, but loses most of its impact on rewatching)
4) Alien vs. Predator (great concept that somehow winds up more like a straight-to-video slasher)
5) Alien3 (a dark blur)

Didn't see AvP: Requiem. Probably will eventually, for completion's sake, but I'll wait until it passes on Space or something.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I think Alien is the best Alien film but Alien 3 is my favorite of the bunch. :)

Alien
Alien 3
Aliens
Alien Vs. Predator
Alien Resurrection

Alien Vs. Predator 2: What the FUCK were they thinking? Besides I don't like infants getting devoured by monsters.

Aliens. awesome movie. There is a version running around that is the original(Directors) cut. If you can find it, it is WAY awesome!!

I just didn't get Alien 3. Good performances, but STUPID story.

Alien vs Predator just didnt live up to it's title.

How can you enjoy Alien 3 when it destroys your enjoyment of Aliens?

Because ... it doesn't. They're two different films. Did you really want to see Ripley, Hicks and Newt 'play house' in the next film? Aliens made its point with Newt, and Alien 3 made its point by killing her. I grant that a little breathing space would've been preferable, but ... c'est la vie. It's all about Ripley, and they did damn fine work with her in Alien 3.

It's the law of diminishing returns:

Alien > Aliens > Alien 3 > Alien Resurrection > AVP > AVP: R

Here's hoping Alien prequel can break the cycle.

Alien- Maybe the best creepy, monster-in the dark horror/sci-fi film ever.

Aliens- Maybe the best adrenaline rush, man vs. monster aliens action/sci-fi film ever.

Alien 3- There was a lot of controversy about this film as it was probably doomed form the outset. A prime example of what happens when Hollywood wants to make a film with just a title and without a director or a script. A revolving door of writers and directors worked on this film and the result was a very underdone movie that could have been really good. Even the actors in the film said they could have made a good movie, but it just fell apart.

Alien 4- A silly B-movie with ridiculous comedic moments thrown in. A slap in the face to the Alien legacy.

Alien vs. Predator: An interesting movie in that they almost succeeded in making the kind of film that they should have made, but then they should have realized that that picture shouldn't have been made in the first place. In any film in which an Alien is fighting Predator humans are completely unnecessary. They are absolutely no match for either and so they'll just become cannon fodder. And they makers did make that film, but still insisted that a lot of humans be in the film. So we got an hour and a half of humans just being in the way and getting killed. At the end nothing interesting happened that involved us in the film, no one died that we cared about at all, and there wasn't much of the Alien vs. the Predator. Overall a pretty pointless film.

AVP2- More Alien vs. Predator action made this a little cooler, and the Predator's weaponry was awesome, but again this was just the same problem with AVP1 ratcheted up to a higher level. Humans are chickens in their coop, and the Aliens are foxes. It was like watching one of those Friday the 13th films where Jason just goes from person to person and kills them.

For me:

Aliens - Excellent, stylishly-made action film, but one with heart as well. Also one of the most quotable movies ever. Lots of fun.

Alien - A classic in just about every sense. Probably set a new standard for sci-fi/horror.

Alien 3 - Criminally underrated. Yes, it kind of shits all over the end of Aliens, and yes, there was way too much interference from the studio, but despite all that, it is a solid film, one that is haunting, emotional, and wonderfully atmospheric. I know David Fincher has pretty much disowned it, but it really proved that the man knows how to direct a movie.

Alien Resurrection - Mostly a mess. There were some interesting ideas, but also a lot of stupid ones as well, most notably the whole premise (they're somehow able to harvest an alien queen from a cloned Ripley? Really?) And let's not even talk about the "new breed" of alien introduced at the end. Ugh. It had potential, but it simply didn't gel.

I'm just gonna stick with the pure Alien films and not include the crossovers with Predator.

Haven't seen the AVP movies:

Aliens - Awesome action thriller with one of the greatest scenes (Ripley vs. the Alien Queen for about a hour) ever.

Alien - Haunting, Scary, and very claustrophobic but great

Alien 3 - I actually like this one, but not as good as the previous two. Still, some good scenes and Ripley's sacrifice was a nice scene.

Alien Resurrection - I didn't mind it, but I wonder why it was made.

The best is Alien, though I also hold the sequel, Aliens, in high regard.

Both Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are flawed, but watchable films.

The less said about the crossover movies the better.

Yeah the maternity ward scene in AvP;R is a bad taste classic. Reputedly the actresses were told to act as though they were having a 'fatal orgasm', that at some level they were enjoying what was happening to them. And you thought the blonde girl chestbursting in AvP like a porn star faing it was the most blatant example of the dark sexual subtext in the series.
Still don't find it as disturbing as killing the heroes from Aliens off off-screen.

It doesn't need to be Newt and co playing happy famillies. The thing that destroys me in Alien 3 is that it seems so unnecessary, so sadistic, all you need was one throwaway line "Yeah, your's was the only pod ejected, the others are all safely on their way to earth"

As for the half breed well, it wasn't great but at least it was something new. It also made the point of humanity overcoming the bugs, the hybrid kills the Queen whilst Ripley triumphs over all, get's her little girl back too. And at least the half-breed was smart enough to get off the crashing ship whilst the other bugs just sat there and got incinerated (as indeed the do in every other film come to think of it).

The results are pretty puzzling, large number of people on the other poll seeking to defend Alien 3 as not the series wrecker I consider it. That said Aliens is clearly the most popular of the series and light years ahead of it

Aliens > Alien Resurrection > Alien > Alien 3

I'm not a fan of horror movies which is why AR goes above the original on my list. And as much as I like depressing movies that make me want to kill myself if they are done well, Alien 3 is a turd excreted in the face of what Aliens put in place, and I hate it for it.

Bullshit. Popularity does not equal quality. Hamburgers are the most popular food in America. Don't believe me? Go outside. Throw a rock. You're bound to hit a McDonald's, Burger King, Carls' Junior, Jack in the Box or one of a thousand other burger joints. That said a burger is not light years ahead of a Filet Mignon. Filet Mignon is fine dining. Hamburgers are junk food. Just like Aliens. Get 'em in. Get 'em out. Don't let 'em stop for a minute to think.

Aliens is junk food for the mind.

Alien 3 is fine dining and frankly it's light years ahead of Aliens in terms of quality.
