To go with our 'Is Dollhouse any good thread?' I thought we'd have a show of hands. Please vote for one but then also list your preferences for the others in a post. For me, in descending order it's;

1. Buffy
2. Angel
3. Dollhouse
4. Firefly

1. ANGEL. Aside from the shoddy first season, pretty much perfection.
2. BUFFY. Love the early years, the later years tarnish the reputation.
3. FIREFLY. It's good, but it's also overrated. Movie was excellent, though.
4. DOLLHOUSE. Could barely bother to watch the first season but it definitely ended strong.

1. Angel: Great show, great characters, great ending.
2. Buffy: Almost as good as Angel, but it should have ended earlier.
3. Dollhouse: Awful start, but it ended strong and I loved Adelle.
4. Firefly: Some decent ideas, but ultimately not a very good show.

1. Angel - Darker, more philosophical show where characters weren't quite so black and white as other shows. Plus, some awesome action/fight scenes.
2. Buffy - Brilliant concept shows, awesome humor and dialog and touching relationships.
3. Firefly - could have easily been number 1 given time and was certainly the strongest Whedon show out of the gate by a mile. Had already gotten to Season 2 quality by a handful of episodes into Season 1 and had the best cast out of all his shows. This show would have been really special given time.
4. Dollhouse - really crummy beginning and hit and miss until the end of Season 1. Season 2 started a bit shaky but the rest of Season 2 ends pretty strong and salvages the series

1. Firefly - Easily my favourite. It is the only one I've watched it all the way through (not that hard), own on DVD and have bothered to at least look at some of its other media.
2. Buffy - Watched season 1 and I think I dropped out in season 2, got bored with it. Have seen various episodes over the years but never felt the need to fill in the gaps.
3. Angel - Not a character I can say I really liked in Buffy so it was unlikely to win me over. Of what I've seen I haven't been overly impressed.
4. Dollhouse - Not seen it so it has to be fourth.

You came so close. The show really doesn't get very good till the last half of the second season. There's a handful of fun episodes before then but an awful lot of clunkers in there too.

Again, the show doesn't really get very good until mid Season 2, though there are a couple of strong episodes in Season 1 like "I've got you under my skin", "I will remember you", "5x5", "Sanctuary"..........course those last 3 episodes are Buffy tie-in's so they're not nearly as good as if you didn't watch Buffy Season 3.

True. The first season is average at best, and the second starts to get good around halloween episode (7th or 8th, AFAIR) but there are some truly bad episodes even after that (Go Fish anyone?).

I have to disagree here. While the first season is weaker than the following seasons (and not a lot weaker), it never gets as bad as Buffy got in some first and second season episodes. I don't remember anything that got close to the robot demon, inca mummy or Go Fish episodes ...
I'm planning to rewatch Angel as soon as I finish the last season of 24.

1. Firefly - everything was right. The characters, the actors, the concept, the feel, EVERYTHING. Though I think it also benefitted from not having a lot of seasons to start the inevitable downward slide like...

2. Buffy - a very good show that really had run out of steam by season 4. Sure, there were still some amazingly good episodes in the remaining seasons, but I think it had done its best work in seasons 2 and 3.

3. Angel - meh. This is where it drops off for me. The last season got really good, but like Enterprise, the rest of it just wasn't very damn good.

4. Dollhouse - hated it. High concept dumbed down by the network for general audiences with an abysmal cast and characters that seemed pretty much recycled from other Joss shows. Just bad all around. Maybe a high point or two toward the end of season 1, beginning of season 2, but everything else was trash.

Firefly would probably be at the top of my list if there was more of it, but as it is, I have to go with Angel.

Havent seen Dollhouse yet.

I own all the other series on DVD, and this is how I rank them:

1: Angel
2: Firefly
3: Buffy

Angel
Buffy
Firefly
Dollhouse

Seen this type of thread so many times now I can't be bothered explaining anymore

1. Buffy - A great series. One of those "right show in the right place at the right time" things.
2. Angel - I've only seen some of this, but I like it, just not as much as Buffy.
3. Firefly - Pretty good, but less immediately appealing to me than Buffy and Angel and only managed three or four really good episodes before it was cancelled.

I don't think I've seen enough of Dollhouse to really have an opinion on it.

Oh, I totally agree with this. Angel season 1 was loads better than Buffy season 1. I just meant that the show doesn't really become the amazing show it becomes until part of the way through season 2.

Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse in that order, thouigh the placement of the first two does alternate a little. Firefly was probably the most consistent in terms of quality and has three or four bona fide classic episodes.
