Favourite Foreign Songs

I actually listen to a lot of foreign songs, those who know me from the Vinyl-threads here, will also remember my love for ELO and Beatles (to name just the two).

When spring and summer is upon us though, I listen to a lot of Getz/Gilberto

I love the Japanese version of "Country Roads" from the anime "Whispers of the Heart". I also love the music from Chinese films such as "The Killer" and "The Bride with White Hair".

I am a big Opera fan and most of that is in Italian (although, being a Mozart opera fan, a reasonable amount is in German as well)...but I don't think that's what you are really trying to get at.

Being from Russian ancestry and growing up during the height of the Cold War, though, even as a child I was always fascinated with the (then) Soviet Union and Russian history and culture in general. And there was no finer chorus than the Red Army Choir.

You have to ignore the absurd propaganda aspects of this video, however (or remember them as history)....and just focus on these guys singing the Soviet National Anthem. They do it so well it will bring tears to your eyes...even if, like me, you grew up in South Florida learning how to 'duck and cover' during a potential nuclear attack from Cuba.

If you mean songs in a language other than the one I speak then Russian pop music and Scandanavian/Gaelic bands such as Eluveitie.
 
I'm a fan os Ashley MacIssac and Mary Jane Lamond's Maggie Song in gaelic.
