Favourite Character Dynamic

I think we all agree that DS9 had a great ensemble. But inside the large group there were a lot of smaller ones that worked really well.

I really enjoyed watching Odo and Quark together. In the area of morality they were polar opposites, and it was great watching their relationship evolve from animosity through respect to veiled friendship. They really seemed to understand each other in a way that belied the traditional cop/robber stereotype.

So, which of these was your favourite dynamic, and why?

This topic suffers from lack of Kira/Jadzia kickassery, so I voted Odo/Quark
Ha! I guess I could have included the MU with Kira/Kira.

And I thought about leaving out Ezri/Worf but I thought maybe someone might have liked them together.

Odo / Kira

No matter if they are a couple or not, they were very cool together onscreen, with Odo/Quark a close second.

In my view 4 Jadzia options in the Poll is way too many, especially since there are so many great dynamics listed that could be way better placed there, and since neither Jadzia nor any of her dynamics was ever the least bit interesting.

Aside from that, only listing a few options, mostly just including the main characters, is far too limiting for the breadth of the great dynamics present in DS9, many of which the secondary characters' dynamics surpassed.

Before voting for most of those Poll options listed, (other than Odo/Quark which easily surpasses any other option listed on the Poll) I'd vote for the following better options:

Weyoun/Sisko
Weyoun/Dukat
Weyoun/Damar
Weyoun/Dukat
Weyoun/Odo
Garak/Quark
Garak/Odo
Garak/Dukat
Brunt/Quark
Kai Winn/Sisko
Kai Winn/Kira
Martok/Nog
Vic Fontaine/Odo
Vic Fontaine/Nog

...and to prevent this list from getting insanely long, I won't even bother to include dynamics brought to the table by amazing secondary characters who only appeared in the series once or twice. :D

I can't believe the Garak / Julian dynamic isn't streaking ahead! It was way cool, and always surprising.

I voted other because my favorite is the sadly underused Odo/Garak dynamic. Their scenes in "The Die is Cast" are some of the best character interactions of the series. Of course with those two, ANY character dynamic is already memorable to begin with.

I really like the Sisko/Jake relationship. It's one of the most touching and realistic father and son relationships ever on tv.

I voted for Odo and Quark (gotta love that convoluted relationship), but if I had a second choice, it'd be Jake and Nog. In retrospect, I've come to appreciate Jake and Nog's friendship and really enjoy how they interacted. I especially like the Jake/Nog "B" stories from the earlier seasons- in a few cases, it was better than the main storylne.

There were so many excellent pairings, some of which didn't get enough screentime.

I voted for Odo/Quark, but Bashir/Garak was very good, and Sisko/Kira had a number of interesting appearances.

I voted for Odo/Quark. Why? Even in substandard or mediocre episodes, the scenes with Odo and Quark would always be a kick. While Bashir/Garak was also excellent, we got that far less often. And needless to say, Shimerman and Auberjonois were two of the best actors on the show.

Consider, for instance, "If Wishes Were Horses." Subpar, mediocre episode, yes - but Quark's little talk with Odo about branching into family entertainment was hilariously biting satire.

Or "The Homecoming." Quark observes to Rom, after a baffled Odo tries to figure out why he helped him, "Every so often, declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies."

And those are just examples from episodes I watched recently. I can't wait for "The Jem'Hadar" - "Someone has to look out for Quark." ;)

Or this exchange:

Odo: Come along, Quark. Move along. You should be in an emergency shelter by now.
Quark: I'm not going to any emergency shelter. This is my bar. And I'm going to defend it.
Odo: Really? And how do you plan to do that?
Quark: (holds box) With this!
Odo: You're going to hit them with a box?
Quark: No, this is my disruptor pistol. The one I used to carry in the old days, when I was serving on that Ferengi freighter.
Odo: I thought you were the ship's cook.
Quark: That's right, and every member of that crew thought he was a food critic. If the Klingons try to get through these doors, I'll be ready for them.
(opens box, there's only a piece of paper, Odo reads:)
Odo: "Dear Quark. Used parts from your disruptor to fix the replicators. Will return them soon. Rom."
Quark: I'll kill him!
Odo: With what?

Finding this on youtube is what made me a Trekkie again. :)

I voted for Miles/Julian, but all of the relationships people have voted for are interesting. I have always dug the friendships on the different series that just feel real. Kirk/Spock, Geordi/Data, Miles/Julian, Harry/Tom, and Archer/Tucker are all fun pairings to watch.
