Favorite Starship from the Franchise?

Favorite: The original TOS Enterprise.

Runner-up: Refit/Enterprise-A. Didn't like the swept pylons and art-deco nacelles at first, but the design grew on me. I figure that when technology is advanced to the point of having FTL drive, artificial gravity, teleportation and all that stuff, why not design starships to be beautiful as well as practical?

Another vote for the Miranda class.

For me, it has to be the beautiful and elegant refit Constitution-class Enterprise (& the A). Someone somewhen likened her to a swan and I'd have to agree.

However, the Excelsior and Enterprise-B come a close second. These designs seem to convey sleek elegance while remaining powerful and practical.

And in third place, the peculiar little Oberth-class Grissom.

The 24th century runners up would be the Nemesis refit Enterprise-E, the mighty Akira-class, and the intriguing Olympic-class Pasteur.

The original Constitution-class is my favourite, but since that almost seems to be a given, my other faves would be (in order): the Daedalus-class (pitch perfect as a primitive precursor to the TOS ships, I would've loved to see a series depicting the earlier era in Starfleet exploration in which ships like the Archon and the Essex participated -- also love its later cousin in design, the Olympic-class); the Excelsior-class (plausible, sleek and powerful evolution of the Connies); the Miranda-class; the Oberth-class; and the Sovereign-class. And among non-Federation ships it doesn't get any more badass than the D'deridex.

While the original or refit Enterprise seems to be getting the love it deserves - it's an iconic vessel, of course - I've noticed that the Miranda-class is getting some nods. I'm curious as to what may be the reasons?

A statement was made where the Miranda-class is 'Starfleet's bitch' because we tend to only see that type of vessel get attacked in some way (e.g. the first DS9 episode, and "Star Trek IV"). Interestingly, both of those vessels were the Saratoga. Yet, we saw the Reliant kick the Enterprise's ass in "Star Trek II" (the original)....to put it bluntly. Also, in "Star Trek II," the Miranda-class kinda looked scary since it was a Fed ship made to look imposing; evil.

With that said, the Nebula-class is to the Galaxy as to what the Miranda-class is to the Constitution. Though, I actually like the Nebula better than the Galaxy since it does have a detection thingy for cloaked vessels, and it is a nice compact vessel.

So, again out of curiosity and not out of like or dislike, I ask what are some of the reasons of liking the Miranda-class?

The nice thing about the Klingon Bird of Prey is if you have a really big backyard. You can park it there. And no one will ever know it's there. Until you take off.

I like it because it takes all the Starfleet components and arranges them in a compact shape, the extended hull providing two hangar decks and more living space that the Constitution class's secondary hull and without the dorsal pylon weakness. It looks mean and hunkered down.
The Nebula class was TNGs version of the the Miranda and did have some great features- the dorsal mission module being the best, although I wish we had seen some other modules swapped with it sometimes. I do wish they had taken it a step further and blended in the secondary hull into the primary some, but I can see the advantages of keeping the saucer interchangeable with the Galaxy class. Thing is when I see it I just see another Starfleet vessel, it just does not say 'we're going to kick ass' like the Miranda class does.

Cool...!

I can see loving the Enterprise refit but not the interior design. I like the 60's interior and the TNG interior. The 60's one because it's simple and it makes the plants and decorations really stand out, while the Enterprise D interior just seems really comfortable. The stark gray walls of the original do look nice and minimalistic like you'd expect on more of a ship at war, I suppose. It would definitely be easier to keep clean!

Big Jake, the Daedalus did at least get featured in the video game Star Trek Legacy (PC/Xbox 360). I do believe it was a playable class in the Archer era. (There was also an achievement for carrying a ship from one generation over into another.) :)

Joel, I would have to say one of the reasons I loved the Miranda class was because I thought: That would make a cool Romulan ship. :)

Another reason, I liked its weapons emplacements. :)
