Favorite stand-up comedy routines

Inspired by a thread a few weeks ago about stand up comedians, what is your favorite individual bit or routine by any comedian?

For me, I have to say the single funniest routine I've ever seen is Sam Kinison's bit on solving world hunger. I've seen this dozens of times, and it never fails to make me genuinely laugh out loud.

I also have an honorable mention to Chris Rock's "Black People vs. N****rs". I know it's not PC for a white man to mention a bit like this, but I grew up in a very, very bad neighborhood, and this is so true it's painful.

Rather than cite someone who is super well-known, I'll go with my friend Jon Steinberg's routine. Until I was friends with him, I was pretty ignorant about stand up comedy, but he schooled me and introduced me to some pretty funny comics I otherwise would never have heard of.

This is his special that aired on CTV a few months back--his humour is actually a little darker than what made it into this special, but it gives you an idea of his style.

Not gonna search youtube but Carlos Mencia's bit about the LA Riots just slayed me.

"You white people don't have the corner market on stupidity. During the LA Riots I'm watching tv and I see a Latin brother on the local news-they're interviewing the looters. Bro's got a boombox on his shoulder with the tag still on it. Lady reporter asks him if he's got anything to say. He says, 'Yeah, I'd like to shout out to my friends from Jose Hernandez, 221 3rd st!' I'm thinking, 'Dude, you could at least put down the boombox!' " Died laughing.

I always liked Sam Kinison's guide to oral sex where he suggests spelling the alphabet with your tongue. Pretty hilarious.

Bill Cosby's bit on Himself where he describes how he ended up giving the kids chocolate cake for breakfast.

The "Little Tortilla Boy" bit parodying movie trailers is quite amusing (Pablo Francisco?).

I actually forgot about Bill Cosby... I love that routine too.

My wife's face... split! The skin and hair split and came off of her face so that there was nothing except the skull! And orange light came out of her hair and it lit all around! And fire shot from her eye sockets and began to burn my stomach! And she said, "Where did they get chocolate cake from?!?" And I said, "They asked for it!!" And the children, who had been singing praises to me, lied on me, and said, "Uh-uhh!! We asked for eggs and milk, and Dad made us eat this!!!"

That entire film is so funny my sides hurt from laughing so much.

The part about drinking and drugs, the visit to the dentist, all are classics.

And of course, all children are brain damaged.

"What happened to your hair?"
"I don't know."
"Well, was your head with you all day?"

Bob Newhart - The Driving Instructor and The Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company
Bill Cosby - The Dentist
Jim Gaffigan - Hot Pockets
George Carlin - Baseball vs. Football
Also, Andy Griffith had a long routine about watching a football game for the first time. I've heard it on the radio a few times over the years, but it was hilarious.

Lots of Robin Williams' routines from back when he was coked out of his gourd are hilarious.

I'm also really fond of Sam Kinnison's "Bring me the phone" gag...

Some of Victor Borge's stuff will knock me out of my seat even today.

Robin Harris's' "Bebe's Kids" before it became that movie I never saw.

Sam Kinison's "Married guy goes to hell, devil gives him a tour"
