Favorite Series Theme Song

[smart ass mode] Well, sticking stricktly to the definition of song, neither theme can win this poll but the ENT theme. [/smart ass mode]

:p

None of the above.

My favorite is DS9 with lyrics or Voyager with lyrics.

Polls should keep up with the times IMO. I've seen a couple of Polls like this now which always unfortunately exclude these very viable options. :(

With lyrics? WTF are you talking about?

They're only songs if they're sung, you know. These are pieces of music, compositions... 'themes' would suffice. (Include the lyrics Star Trekkin' and the TOS theme qualifies, anyway...)

1. Star Trek: The Next Generation - Pretty much the definitive theme as far as I'm concerned. It's one of Goldsmith's finest works, and it's certainly a few shades above his collaboration with Jay Chattaway in -
2.Star Trek: Voyager - the horns are a tad nasal. But generally, this is a superb theme, sweeping and majestic. Still one of the best around.
3.Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1-3) - Dennis McCarthy's music for Star Trek has never sounded particularly inspired, it's by-the-nubmers symphonic fluff. But he gave us easily his most evocative and haunting theme with this piece.
4. Star Trek: The Original Series - upbeat, carefree, and flighty fun, suggesting in all its innocence the vastness of space in the first few bars. Still a classic.
5. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (4-7) - The same thing as the earlier one, but without any pretense to being haunting or evocative. It makes sense in context, and it's an okay theme. But 'okay' is about it.
6. Star Trek: The Animated Series - A bit goofy, but rather charming. The best piece of music associated with this show, which often relied on its handful of cues too extensively.

To rate the remaining one might leave people the impression that I like it in any sense; or perhaps at least that I consider it a mode of musical expression; thus it is best to pass over it in silence.

VOY; DS9 is my second favorite. ENT is the only one I actively loathe.

VOY loses out in all categories except Best Song and ENT loses out in all categories except Best Pet. See, there's something good about every Trek series. :D

Wow, for the beating "Faith of the Heart" usually takes, I'm surprised that it's beating TNG!

I'm surprised TNG is being this badly, period. I expected it to be one of the favourites, duking it out with TOS or whatever... it appears I'm in a decidedly small minority.

oops! I mistakenly voted for DS9 when I'd wanted to vote for... surprise! -- VOY.

lovely theme tune there.

Star Trek.

TNG: Just the first TOS movie theme edited for TV. Not original, not earth-shattering.

DS9: Unimaginitive.

Voyager: Maudlin

ENT: I liked it, but not my favorite. I liked it because it was something different from the rest of the franchise.

TOS: Very dated
TNG: Very cloying
DN9: Very pensive
VOY: Very different in quality from the show
ENT: Very awful

Voyager - just superb, and the visuals only make it better. Voted accordingly.
TNG - excellent. One of Goldsmith's best works.
TOS - still pretty cool.

As for the other two... DS9's theme always struck me as nothing so much as a good cure for insomnia. The Enterprise thing is simply hideous (but the visuals are brilliant).
