Favorite Riker Moment

A random selection of some of my favourite Riker moments:

From The Price: when he tells Devvonami Rhal that he's happy for Deanna.

From A Matter of Honor: when he beams back to the Enterprise, apparently not having to learned when to duck.

From Violations: when Deanna is unconscious and he's at her bedside telling her that he misses her.

From The Outcast: when he asks Deanna if his realtionship with Soren will change their relationship.

From Inner Light: when Picard collapses on the bridge and he tries to catch him before he falls.

From Nemesis (film) when he kicks the Viceroy off the precepice and tells him that hell is dark (or it would have been if he had).

From Measure of a Man: when he spots Data's off switch and the implications, then realises the real implications of that.

From Suspicions: when he tries to warn Beverly against her course of action.

I love that scene. Such a great subtle bit of acting. I think it was one where I didn't even understand what was going on until I'd seen the episode a few times, but now I always notice and appreciate it every time I see the episode. I knew you'd show up in this thread with a plethora of good suggestions. I was waiting and you didn't disappoint. :techman: Riker's conversation with Jellico after being sent to his quarters is awesome too. I love how they tear into each other. Definitely one of the best rare instances of personality clash on the often personality clash-less show (as suggested by Gene).

Captain Picard Day is probably my favourite, but I also love his growing frustration throughout Contagion...when the weapons systems keep going down and he asks if someone can find some rocks to throw at the enemy.

I generally always preferred his more lighthearted moments to the more dramatic stuff. I think Frakes pulls off good-natured and bemused well.

I'd have to say all the crazy Riker moments in Frame of Mind. Hands down my favorite Riker episode too.

I forgot about the scene where he tells Picard to shutup.

Chain of Command, Pt. II -- After Jellico tells him that the ranks are dropped, and that he doesn't find him a particularly good first officer, Riker throws it back in his face, criticizes Jellico's command decisions, and says, "I don't think you're a particularly good captain."

While I would agree with Jellico in this case (about Riker being insubordinate, not because of his quality as an XO, that is), I WOULD have to agree that seeing Riker tell people off is a rare delight :)

I'm sure I have better Riker moments, but I've two that are fresh in my head right now:

1. Generations: When Riker, Worf, and Data deduce a way to engage the Bird of Prey's cloak, Data goes to the back to work his magic. When he finishes, he pops his head out and yells "Initiating impressively-sounding-but-overly-complicated action-while-everything-around-me-is-blowing-up!", Riker offscreen simply replies "Make it quick!" Sure, it's urgent, but if I didn't know better, Riker was just annoyed that Data explained something rather than just doing it :)

2. Nemesis: As much as I dislike Nemesis, having Riker engage in movie-style fisticuffs (complete with hanging over the ledge) was neat to see. Yes, he did that all the time in the show, but almost never in the films. I just regret that it took 4 films to have Riker do what Riker does best: heroics!

Staring down the Borg ship with the comment "Then take your best shot, Locutus, because we are about to intervene."

Oh that reminds me, his comment "they're carving us up like a roast" and the look on his face as he says it always cracks me up. :D

Favorite Riker moment is easily from encounter at farpoint after he meets beverly and wesley with his non bearded face and he says really creepy to wesley, "see you on board" and then makes this face:
riker%2Bis%2Bcreepy.jpg
.creepy and awesome.

Yeah, what was the direction in that scene?!

"Jonathan, we need you to look...hell, um, just look like you're a child molester."

i think that image alone may be why he grew the beard. "cover up that creepy stat, frakes!"

In Angel One when he has to wear the eunuch outfit and Troi and Tasha kill themselves laughing at him. Apart from that I would say: Take your best shot Locutus because we are about to intervene. Or bantering with the Klingons in A Matter Of Honour.

I also love this scene in The Defector:
Jarok: "How can you allow Klingon pahtk to walk around in a Starfleet uniform?"
Worf: "You are lucky this is not a Klingon ship. We know how to deal with spies..."
Jarok: "Remove this tohzah from my sight..."
Riker: "Your knowledge of Klingon curses is impressive. But, as the Romulans might say, only a Veruul would use such language in public."

The last scene in Measure of a Man with Riker not going to Data's party...I have no right to be there".One of the most poignant scenes ever in TNG.

Thanks for this great thread. Riker's my favorite The Next Generation character and a lot of good Riker moments have already been mentioned. Here's another one from 11001001 ...

RIKER: Keep notes. This project might turn out to be of interest to scholars in the future.
LAFORGE: Really?
RIKER: Well of course. Think about it. A blind man teaching an android how to paint? That's got to be worth a couple of pages in somebody's book.
I love that grin. :D

I'm not, never have been and never will be a big Riker fan, partly because Frakes was, IMO, pretty darn heavy-handed as an actor, and never more so than when he's trying to be funny. But there are a few scenes that CRACK me up, and one is from the episode called "The Arsenal of Freedom," where Riker is testing whether someone who appears to be his friend and colleague actually is what he appears to be. It goes something like this: "The name of my ship is the Lollipop...It's newly commissioned. It's a good ship."

That was a good one!

I like the scene (forget the ep title) in Ten-Forward where he's trying Klingon dishes for his temporary transfer to the Klingon Bird-of-Prey... He just chomped down on all that disgusting Klingon food with a serious face that's always impressed me. This man was fearless and competitive and it was impressive to behold.
