^Its true that there is less funk, but I didn't mind that. There's some really good rockers on that album.

IMO the funk tracks on Californication and By the Way were pretty bland so I'm not particularly sorry to see them leaving that part of their repertoire behind. BSSM was the last album they did which I enjoyed the funk elements on.
Then don't say you're inspired by Parilment Funkadelic, try to imitate their style for years and then drop it as you gain more main stream popularity.

Funk is what got you that popularity in the first place.

I always figured they dropped the funk because they stopped being very good at it.

Mind you, I don't like the first few albums much especially the first one, i'm not a big funk fan anyway so i'm probably not the best person to judge.

Actually they were very good at it, good enough to get personal approval from George Clinton himself.

He produced Freaky Styley didn't he?

It's like anything though, you have to invest yourself in a genre before you can come to understand and fully appreciate it, and I have never made the effort. Or not yet anyway.

I prefer to stick to the more easily consumable commercial stuff like Jamiroquai, one day I will probably look further into it.

Toss up between Stadium Arcadium and Californication.

Blood, Sugar, Sex Magik was a great album for the time, but I like their albums from Californication and more recent better.

I'll vote for Californication because Stadium Arcadium drags a bit just as a consequence of being so long.

When you're ready, come see me.;)

By the time I'm done with you, you'll have rainbow braids in your hair and saying stuff like: "A tail is nothing but a long booty."

What?! I'm the only one who voted for The Uplift Mofo Party Plan?? I mean, come on, people! It's got Behind The Sun, Fight Like A Brave, Me And My Friends, Walkin' On Down The Road, a funked-up rap cover of Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues...not to mention a certain "Special Secret Song Inside" with a rather naughty title! ;)

Love this band, I've seen them live several times (once on a double bill with the Beastie Boys - now THAT was show.)

I voted for Mother's Milk, although I really enjoy pretty much all of their stuff.

My favorite is Stadium Arcadium. Only 1-2 songs out of that whole album are disappointing. Plus, unlike most rock albums now, it had a lot of tracks on it. Every time I buy a new rock album these days, the price has stayed basically the same, but now we are down to 10-11 tracks at most on average.

Californication and By the Way are good, along with some of the older stuff.

I think it needs to be said that beginning with 'Californication', the band changed their sound somewhat. That has continued with the two albums since. I think it was a change for the better.
