Favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers album?

I've been listening to them a lot more recently. Wasn't really a fan as a kid, but I really got into their last few albums, and now am going back and checking out the early stuff again.

What's your favorite RHCP album?

'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' is my favorite.

Though one could just as easy make an argument for "Mother's Milk" or "Californiacation."

...except for Under The Bridge. For some reason I've always loathed that song--it never felt like a RHCP track to me.

But once Under the Bridge became a huge hit, it's been downhill ever since.

I really like the Chili Peppers, but I love Frusciante's solo work. To me he's the best part of the band. His solo albums are more experimental than what the group does now. They're kind of stuck in a formula. Still, I'll always like them and I do enjoy their new stuff. Here's how I'd rank their albums.

I voted for Mother's Milk but like others say it could easily be BSSM or Californication.

Stadium Arcadium is one of the worst albums I've ever owned, though. 28 songs of utter, utter dirge with maybe 5 worth hearing more than 3 times. I've never returned a single other CD to the shop, but that was on back on HMV's shelves within 2 weeks.

Well the content of the song certainly is. But, once prepubescent girls started singing it, the content seemed to get lost in the shuffle.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik

I used to play it all the time and my wife hated it, until she read the lyrics. Then she decided they were saying some pretty deep things.

Had a great time at a Chili Peppers show in the mid 80s'. Mostly because my girlfriend (who did not become wife) was afraid they'd walk on stage dressed only in a sock.

I'm surprised Californication is winning. To me that is their worst post Mother's Milk album. Although they are all good.

BSSM is my favourite and although despite the fact the band hates it I actually really like One Hot Minute too. Stadium Arcadium is a very good album as well.

I voted for Californication simply because there are more songs I really like on it than any of their other albums; Parallel Universe, Around the World, Scar Tissue, and Otherside are all great, and the title song is my favorite RHCP song.

^ Parallel Universe is probably in my top 5 RHCP tracks. There's something so damned awesome about that one. The Power of Equality, Throw Away Your Television, Soul to Squeeze and Nobody Weird Like Me too.

I had no idea anything after BSSM was any good. One Hot Minute kind of turned me off on the band. I may have to check out their later stuff.

Stadium Arcadium is a disappointment, where's the funk?

^Its true that there is less funk, but I didn't mind that. There's some really good rockers on that album.

IMO the funk tracks on Californication and By the Way were pretty bland so I'm not particularly sorry to see them leaving that part of their repertoire behind. BSSM was the last album they did which I enjoyed the funk elements on.
