Favorite Raygun Sound Effect

I always liked the sound effects for the blasters in Forbidden Planet and al the sound of the plasma rifle from Terminator 2. Both effects are very simple and effective.

1950's War of the Worlds energy weapon, a.k.a. Star Trek TOS photon torpedo.

Those weren't actually the exact same sound effect, but two very similar ones. The sound of the WotW disintegrator bolts was softer and more muffled than the ST torpedo effect (which is a favorite of mine, but it doesn't quite as a raygun effect, though I'm sure it's been used that way elsewhere). They were both created by striking a high-tension metal cable. Ben Burtt used a similar technique to create some of the blaster sounds in Star Wars.

I was going to cite the WotW heat-ray, that high-pitched zee-zee-zee-zeoow sound, as one of my favorites (beginning at about 1:35 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBPhji88AIw ). Reportedly, it's the reversed sound of three electric guitars.

I'm also rather partial to the sound effect of a Gallifreyan staser from Doctor Who's "The Deadly Assassin" (IIRC), which is the last sound in the medley of Doctor Who sound effects presented here:

The dual hand lasers from The Black Hole. They had a very crisp, almost sizzling sound whenever a round was popped off.

Turbo Lasers at about 1:08 are pretty good.

As mentioned:
- Forbidden Planet
- Original V

Also:
- TWOK (the phaser that kills the Ceti Eel)
- Talosian beam/spray thing that knocks out Pike in The Cage

Optimus Prime's rifle from the 80s Generation 1 Transformers cartoon. Plus, he just looked cool when he was firing it. :D
