Favorite part of Star Trek 2009

I loved how the space shots were done. This was the first time, I think, that Trek has realized there is no "up" in space.

TWOK, First Contact, Nemesis, numerous DS9 and Voyager episodes?

Have we ever seen ships upside-down relative to each other in any of those? "Up" was always the same for the Reliant and the Enterprise in TWOK. I recall the E-E flipping over briefly when going to warp in Nemesis, but that's about it

Yes.

And it's funny: all Star Trek did was turning the camera upside down. Yet the ships were still all in one plane, all ships had still the same "up", when in the space scenes/battles in First Contact, Nemesis, DS9, All Good Things, etc... ships where upside down, left to right, back to front many, many times.

Star Trek showed direction-less space much better than the other movies or the TV shows ever did. Maneuverability is a different matter entirely.

I liked the way Greenwood read it in the trailers even more. In the movie, he actually laughs a bit when he tells Kirk, "I couldn't believe it when the bartender told me who you were." in the trailer, he says it with a sense of frustration, even a little disgust. And when he read your line in the trailer, it was so much more dramatic, so much more of an homage to George Kirk, and so much more of a challenge to Jim.

I'm with you on this. The key differences I've noticed are that the music in the trailer is much more epic and emotional than what is used in the movie and Pike leaves out Kirk's mother. The scene is nice and smooth in the trailer but comes out a little lumpy in the movie.

In any case, "Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes..." sells the movie for me. Starship captains are badasses! Who wouldn't want to be one after hearing something like that?

It's hard to say what part is my absolute favorite. I did particularly like the scene with Kirk and Spock inside Spock Prime's ship, though.

My favorite scene in the movie is probably the opening. Perhaps one of the most emotional and heartwrenching scenes Star Trek has ever produced.

Yeah, the opening is great - I think it probably did as much to "sell" the movie to the general audience as worth watching than any other thing. The sequence is both visually epic and deeply moving.

Interestingly enough, parts of this scene were what J.J. showed to Fat Harry from AICN months in advance of the movie's release, and of course Harry raved about how magnificiently Beyond Star Trek they were.

My favourite scene has to be when the enterprise comes out of warp around vulcan. Love seeing the enterprise dodge other ships and the mess around the planet and love it when captain pike barking orders to sulu the sound and music is amazing and when you see nero's ship jaw dropping good.

The next scene when they do the space suit jump is probaly the best set of scenes ever made for a stat trek film ever !!!!!

I did like the opening scene. Robau and the Kelvin seemed more interesting than the Enterprise.

Another of my favorite scenes was the McCoy/Spock argument when they cut back to the Enterprise after Kirk was marooned, it really helped sell Quinto and Urban as their respective characters.

I honestly didn't think I would like this film, but was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was.

My favorite part was the whole McCoy/Kirk scene with the medical shots. That was funny.

Did I mention the bit where Kirk rides up to the Iowa shipyard and has a look at the Enterprise? That was an awesome shot. I loved the bit where he meets McCoy. And the bit with the spunky flight attendant ("You sit down or else I'll make you sit down!")
