Well, if Chronicles of Riddick isn't a part of franchise, then neither is Pitch Black.Another one that is technically a sequel but a very different feel than the original is "Chronicles of Riddick." Not sure it completely qualifies for this exercise, but Riddick is one of the most interesting world building exercises I have seen in a while. I know many consider it bad, but I find it very fun.

Pitch Black is worthwhile for its visuals alone. I saw it on the big screen, and I was extremely impressed with the imaginative visuals, particularly during the sunset.
