Data. Because he wants to become human, but can never be human. Thou he is vastly intellegent, possesses superior abilities to all of the other crew members of the Enterprise, he also has some niavity to him.

Riker - because he's handsome, brave and there are darker shades to his character that I find quite intriguing.

Another vote for Riker. To me he just seemed like the deepest character on the show. That, and Jonathan Frakes is just awesome in his appreciation of the franchise and its fans.

I had to vote Picard. It's hard for me to pick a favorite among the TNG grew since I grew up with them, but I always thought Picard was very noble, heroic, and admirable. My second choice would have probably been Data.

Riker is my favorite TNG character, but I can't pin down why exactly that is. I just know that the episodes dealing with him are usually the ones I enjoy the most.

Praetor, that's a nice David Marcus avatar you have there. Now where'd you get that? ;)

Oh gee NCC-1701, some nice person must have given it to me on my birthday. :p

Oh wait, it was you! (Thanks again.)

I also like Riker but I can't quite figure out why either.

Picard is my ultimate favorite. The reasons are quite like these of Praetor - he's noble, a true gentleman, a diplomat, and he likes Shakespeare! :techman:

I like Troi too, especially in the late seasons.

I totally dislike Riker though. He's too arrogant in my eyes.

Picard, one the most complex and well developed characters in tv ever. In terms of character complexity and coolness I'd put him up there with Roland of Gilead.

Data and Worf were also very good.

My vote's for Crusher because I was completely awesomed by her when I was little.

Picard'd be a close second followed by Riker and Troi in joint third.

Never really got the Data love myself.

Voted Worf. After TOS to have a Klingon serving in Starfleet was a fantastic turn of events. Plus they used him well over the years to explore Klingon culture and some brilliant episodes involving Worf and Klingon politics. He was a complex character in that he had a human aspect and yet was more Klingon, more honourable than most Klingons. A paragon of duty and honour and loyalty.

Data would be a top spot but the focus on him in the movies and how it was so unseriesDatalike caused me to dislike the character somewhat. But series Data trying to discern human emotions and his pinnocio quest was touching, funny and fascinating. An obvious nod to the vulcanness of Spock but a neat twist to that concept and usually perfectly executed.

Picard is soooo cool because after Kirk he was everything you did not expect of a Captain.

The other characters did not always get much of a look in, asides from Riker who I never really dug after a while because he appeared stagnant not moving on in his career and relationship with Troi. However, certain fanfics have given me a whole new appreciation of him. A pity that La Forge was not given more screen time character exploration. Cause he was a fantastic actor and a loveable character too.

But still I went with Worf. [Plus he managed to transfer over to another series - so that proves how impressive he was]

I share Praetor's sentiments. Picard was something of a Renaissance man with so many interests, and he had such depth. Data was the combination of child-like innocence and curiosity.

My favorite is Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Picard is a rich, multi-faceted character; one who reads ancient Greek and Latin classics and Shakespeare as well as hard-boiled detective novels. He plays the flute as well as rides horses, fences, and does a little rock climbing. He drinks tea as well as Aldebaran whiskey. He is a diplomat who appears to have a certain degree of special ops training. The erudite who easily rises to the role of action hero when necessary.

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

(Thanks again.)
You're very welcome. :D

I hear this a lot actually. But personally, I never got that impression from him. I always found him very likeable.

Really? I mean, I love Picard, too. But have you ever watched shows like Homicide: Life on the Street or Six Feet Under, just to give two examples off the top of my head? Those had characters that were much more flashed out than probably any Trek character ever was. In my opinion at least. :)

I'm still very grateful.

Me too. I think in some ways he comes off as pompous because he's just so self-confident. I can see why a person might feel that way, but I don't feel that way.

When Roddenberry came up with the characters it took all of them to make a complete person, as each embodied a particular 'aspect' of humanity, so we're lucky they ended up so well-rounded. ;)

Picard would be my favorite except for the messes that were Pen Pals, I, Borg, Homeward and Insurrection.

So I voted Riker.

It's got to be Picard for me, great character and wonderful performance. Runner-up is Worf, who, dodgy relationship with Deanna aside, is the character who I think developed most over the seven years. And I love the relationship he has with Picard in episodes like Reunion and Redemption, and the two actors play it so well.

If I may ask, what in particular in those stories did you dislike about him enough to not vote for him?

Pen Pals and Homeward were 24th century Prime Directive messes. Kirk would have never openly allowed a people to suffer and hidden behind the PD.

I, Borg he passes up an opprotunity to deal a crippling blow to an enemy that is trying to destroy your way of life.

Insurrection was just a mess all its own with JLP super-action hero.
