Favorite DS9 Writer...

Farscape One

I have to say Ira Steven Behr and Ronald D. Moore are my favorite writers for DS9. I find it impossible to pick between the two of them... they both made such huge contributions to DS9. Not to say the other writers didn't... I just tend to favor episodes penned by them.

I know Behr usually paired up with either Wolfe or Beimler, but his overall vision was part of what made DS9 so great.

And Moore... a lot of his episodes are among my favorites. "THE DARKNESS AND THE LIGHT", "IN THE CARDS", "ROCKS AND SHOALS", "TACKING INTO THE WIND", "OUR MAN BASHIR", "SONS OF MOGH"... the list goes on. And I will always feel indebted to him for officially bringing in the Defiant... he did the teleplay for "THE SEARCH, PART I".

Does anyone have a favorite writer/producer?

I really like Robert Hewitt Wolfe, both with and without Behr. Moore gave the series gravitas and Behr had all the big ideas, but Wolfe, I feel, did more to create details around which further stories could be built. Indeed, he was the one who came up with the ideas that formed the basis of the Dominion and the three races that control it. Beimler was good, but it seemed like the scripts he and Behr wrote together lacked the precision and uniqueness that Behr achieved with Wolfe.

Wolfe did some great episodes... "SHADOWPLAY", "THE WIRE", "SECOND SKIN", "HARD TIME", "TIES OF BLOOD AND WATER".

And he went on to develop ANDROMEDA. A shame that studio didn't keep him... I thought the series was at its best when he was at the helm. I wonder what he's up to lately.

Wolfe, Behr, and Moore wrote the best episodes. Wolfe and precision go hand-in-hand. His time as script editor strengthened the series the way Piller did for Next Generation. He took the dull knife of Beimler and Echevarra's scripts and, by the looks of it, sharpened their blades. It's amazing that they didn't receive the HUGOs that Next Generation received. He made them all better writers.

Peter Alan Fields deserves some praise here, as well.

Peter Allan Fields wrote some remarkable episodes, including the Hugo winning TNG episode "The Inner Light".

Definitely made his mark on the franchise, DS9 in particular with episodes like "DUET", "NECESSARY EVIL", and "FOR THE UNIFORM".
