Favorite battle moments in Star Trek?

Jaespol

Captain
I do like battle scenes in Star Trek, here are two of my favorites

1. Romulan Warbird's wing gets blown off and hits the Enterprise in "Nemesis".
2. The ship of the Xindi aquatics in battle in "Enterprise", its so powerful, and when it gets hit by that fire anomaly and all the water tanks crack and burst!
AWESOME!

Your's?

The battle against the Borg cube in First Contact with the Akiras and Steamrunners. That was one of the coolest things in all Star Trek to me, but it's so. freaking. short. That's the only thing I don't like about it; the far too short length.

DS9 did have several really cool battles. The Defiant vs Lakota was neat, and all the major fleet actions were fun to watch.

The fight with the Romulan in Balance of Terror. Most everything else was rather poorly choreographed by the SFX guys.

DS9's later battles in general and "Sacrifice of Angels" in particular are among my favorites. I also like the battle near the end of TUC a lot, with the hidden Bird of Prey and how it finally gets blown to pieces in a joint effort by the Enterprise and the Excelsior.

That is also my favorite and most memorable battle moment. Other battles may be better but that is the best moment for me. First time I saw the ship crack I hit reverse on the DVR to see it again. No wonder ENT was so expensive to produce. Some of the CG's were great.

It was not an action-packed sequence, but I loved the shot in TWOK when Enterprise slowly rises behind Reliant, putting her right in her sights. Very exciting, none the less, and made a great, memorable moment.

The battle in Nemesis was really cool. About the only cool thing in the movie... but it was cool.

Of course it recalled TUC, which has been mentioned, and is probably in the running as my second fave.

Honorable mention to the orbital bombardment/massacre/rescue in The Die Is Cast.

The Jem'Hadar fighter blowing up the Odyssey via suicide run. It made my jaw drop, and it was the first time I could recall seeing such unbridled evil on a Trek show.

While the Enterprise battle in Nemesis was cool it was really badly directed.
The cast members looked quite bored on the bridge and Picard was just like "yeah fire weapons and stuff" while Worf was stuck in the back randomly pressing buttons.
They also appeared to look towards the ceiling about 10 times which was a bit excessive.
It was also a wasted opportunity, Nemesis should have given us a full fleet battle, if DS9 could give us good looking fleet battles I don't know why Nemesis couldn't.

1. Sacrifice of Angels. (at the time it was jaw dropping)

2. First Contact space battle. All 44 seconds of it.

3. Various spacebattles from Enterprise.

The Nemesis spacebattle was awful. No drama, the CGI was poor and the music was terrible. + was it just me or did the Enterprise LCARS diplays looks horrible in that film?

Thats my choice too.

DS9 had a number of great battle scenes: "The Way of the Warrior" (both the fighting on the station and outside of it), "The Sacrifice of Angels", "What You Leave Behind", and others.

I also quite like the fleet vs. the Borg cube in First Contact, but I agree it was much too short.

Some of the space battles on Enterprise, like the one against the Xindi in "Countdown", were very well done. A few of the ground battles with the MACOs were pretty entertaining too.

I see no one has anything from Voyager yet. I guess the battles on that show weren't particularly memorable, although I always liked the fight over the Caretaker's array in the pilot. They probably had a higher budget for that episode, and I think it showed somewhat in the battle sequence.

What planet are you on that you think the music was terrible, the Jerry Goldsmith score for this film was one of the only good things about it.
I agree about the lack of drama, really pales in comparison to the awesome tense feeling watching TWOK or the goosebumps you get when Kirk tightens his fist and says "FIRE" in TUC.

As for great Voyager battle scenes? Hmmm....None of them really made an impression on me but then neither did any TNG ones outside the movies. I do like how in "Basics" they are getting constantly attacked over and over again, I always thought it was interesting that even though they were vastly superior technologically to the Kazon, the Voyager crew were almost destroyed several times just by being so outnumbered.
Oh and "Scorpion" was pretty awesome too, I remember one scene in particular where one of the beams from the 8472 ship hits one of the Voyager's nacelles or something throwing it completely off kilter just before it manages to go to warp..that was pretty cool.

Yeah... not that you'd ever know it from looking at the ship, which miraculously managed to stay in pristine condition week after week.

Agreed about the TNG battle scenes -- none of them ever did much for me. But I just figured that the visual effects technology wasn't at the point were they could show us dynamic battles on a semi-regular basis while still staying within the show's budget.

In fact TNG has the worst battle scene ever - "Rascals"
They manage to fire one phaser shot at the Klingon birds of Prey the Ferengi have comandeered, ONE SHOT!!! It takes them like 5 minutes to shoot once and then they surrender, just awful/

*The Fed fleet charging in during "Sacrifice of Angels"
*The tumbling Defiant launching escape pods and you see the destruction to the allied fleet behind the Defiant before it explodes, in "Changing Face of Evil"
*The Rotarran going into battle in "Soldiers of the Empire" and the crew breaks out into song.
*Deep Space 9 "arming up" in "The Way of the Warrior" and then just cutting sick at the Klingons. Four years before we really got to see what the station could do but it was worth it.
