2 great episodes but w/one caveat.
Did the have to mention about bringing down the mines and Jem'Hadar troops ready to come through, so many times.
Takes away from an otherwise really good shows.

I think it does indeed bear repeating about the mines many times, because it emphasizes the point that had Dukat taken his duties seriously instead of goofing off and wasting his time trying to impress Kira & Ziyal, the Dominion never would have lost the Station. If you look back at all the times when Dukat could have done something to put down the resistance, yet didn't (ie: arresting Kira like Damar said, getting the mines down fast instead of needing to be told to do so multiple times etc. etc.), it leaves a discernable trail of egotism by Dukat causing him to lose the Station.

Not sure how Dukat lost the station. He was as good as his word: the field was down and the wormhole open before the enemy was in the position to stop the reinforcements.

Is it really reasonable to blame Dukat, or Weyoun, or any of their ilk, for what occurred thanks to Sisko's DEM?

War is such a THIRSTY business, don't chu say, Weyoun?

Apparently it is for everybody. A permanent state of Inebriation would explain the abysmal performance on all sides.

If Dukat was serious he could have had the mines down way back when Kira was still a Dominion collaborator and there was no resistance from her or Sisko.

Sure it's reasonable to blame Dukat for that.

Good point about them putting in war being thirsty work too and Weyoun pointing out why that was so. Another telling sign of Dukat's ego getting in the way of serious warmongering. :D

Or on the other hand, Dukat knew perfectly well that the engineers working on the scheme were doing everything they could to speed the process along (no doubt motivated by backroom threats on the part of Dukat), and that there was little point in becoming a flapping chicken in public like Weyoun, or Damar.

Weyoun already knows war is a thirsty business. In season five he downed poison... not THAT'S thirsty. (The stuff they were going to kill Kira's Cardassian 'father' with.)

Gotta disagree here. If Dukat instilled the same zeal into speeches about getting the mines down that he instilled into romancing Kira and impressing Ziyal, then it would have sped the process along considerably and thus got the mines down in time to win the War. The show also notes this by showing Weyoun thinking about the big picture of remaining vigilant and needing a massive occupation army etc., whereas Dukat is too busy revelling in the glory of having the station that he can't be bothered worrying about counter attacks.

After all, if Dukat really didn't believe in being a flapping chicken, then why did he continue pursuing Kira relentlessly for years even though she was not interested? Clearly Dukat believes in flapping, he just had his priorities mixed up about what to flap about.

I'm not so sure Dukat actually wanted the reinforcements to come through. A steady stream of Jem'Hadar through the wormhole would leave the Cardassia with no chance to escape Dominion rule.

My question is: How would speeches about getting the mines down have sped things up? As kv1at3485, the engineers were most likely already working extremely fast to find a way to take the mines down. Hearing Dukat blather on about it and place even more pressure on them wouldn't help at all.

Plus, what else could Dukat have done? He's not an engineer, so he really should have just stayed out of it like he did and not try to "help" or "improve".

No one works as hard when the boss isn't around to pressure the workers. Dukat "motivating" them to work faster would definitely get them moving at top efficiency.

Kinda like in Star Wars when they hear Vader is coming on-site so then they all suddenly start finishing the Death Star way faster simply because of his ominous presence.
