If they're going to start completely over, maybe the best thing would be to write a direct sequel to the film they were originally going to make and use the first script as background.
That way they can use any footage of Walker/Brian they have as flashback.
Isn't it in poor taste to kill him in the movie, though? Isn't it better to retire the character in a happy family life?
What if you use the action scenes he filmed, and then at the point where the footage runs out... Dom gets a phone call, has a one sided conversation, then tells the group that Brian is going back to take care of his wife and child and wishes them the best of luck.
No offense, but that is literally a worse idea than swapping in a muppet of Brian for his unfilmed scenes.um, yeah. That sounds lame.
