Fargo Season 3 premieres April 19th

I don't thing that's an accurate description. Sure, Bkb Odenkirk was incompetent, but the first sherrif in the first season wasn't (and wasn't he grooming Molly as his replacement, his untimely death being the only reason Bob got the job?), Molly's dad was good at his job, and the new sherrif in season three didn't do much seem incompetent as it seemed like he was playing politics and just wanted the case closed, regardless of the truth. That makes him a bad Sheriff, but not necessarily an incompetent one. He'd been running another police service well enough that the city/town/municipality decided they wanted to merge police services with his and put him in charge at any rate, that speaks of some level of success and competence.

I thought this season was decent but not nearly as good as season two. I took the East Germany thing as a nod to Coen brothers style. It reminds me a lot of the opening scene of A Serious Man, just an isolated vignette with similar intellectual themes as the rest. The man was forced to go along with a damning fiction because the absolute rightness of the status quo must be respected. Same as Gloria, he was 'Arguing with reality' by telling the truth, according to the powerfully corrupt.

My favorite episode of the season was the one that had the least to do with the main arc, Gloria investigating his past. The themes of loneliness and isolation being the sole warrior against the corrupt system. The main arc on the other hand I mostly didn't like. Besides that the show has completely abandoned realism but still says "These events are real", it all just seemed so contrived to me. Not only did very few scenes seem like people were acting like any human would ever act, half the plot twists were driven by the stupidity of one or more characters. They were overtly forcing the story down a funnel toward a conclusion without fully earning it.

This season was coasting on style with very little substance, and it was fun to watch anyway because the style was awesome. The story sucked.
