So, if there could somehow be a crossover between Star Trek (which ever series) and a typical (yes, folks, I'm using the term very generically here; I know there's no such thing as a "typical" fantasy world, but I mean the type which is, I think, the one most of us think of when we hear the term "Fantasy setting": a Tolkien-esque, Dungeons & Dragons-ish, quasi-medieval type setting) race of Fantasy Folk, what do you think would be the most interesting scenario, and why?

I personally think an encounter between, say, Voyager and an elven ship in the form of a giant silver butterfly would make for an interesting encounter. ("They look like Vulcans, but they sure as hell don't sound like Vulcans...")

Meh. I'd rather see somebody's original creation than an already well explored fantasy race.
I'll vote lamia because it would be visually more interesting. I guess that counts as a half-beast.

Since you started out with creatures from Norse mythology (Elves, Dwarves, Giants, ...), I'll say fire jötnar, led by Surtr.
As a tricky race to deal with: easily provoked, prideful, brutish but still quite cunning, requiring of unusual environmental conditions, ...

Honestly, unless it's done in a holodeck or some kind of alien construct like Q or the Metrons or something, I wouldn't want to see it.
That said, it would HAVE to be faeries.

Hobbits. I often wonder what space-faring, post-warp Hobbits would be like, and where they would end up.

I voted for Elves, but could also go with Dwarves, I guess. I can imagine a story where Vulcans or Romulans that ended up stranded in Earth's past became the basis for the legends of Elves - and it could also probably be done with Tellarites being the basis for Dwarves. I just don't like Tellarites as much as Vulcans or Romulans. ;)
