Fantastic Four reboot-- Casting, Rumors, Pix, ect;

<<Guy, sometimes your posts make me wish there was a like button on this thread--you leave me with nothing to say sometimes but with coca cola all over my keyboard from laughing so hard just as I am taking a drink. >>

I always feel this way as well

When I went to the first link all I got was the HR homepage. I did read the Yahoo story though. If the stories about Trank's behavior on FF are true, then that's shame. It makes me kind of wonder if perhaps he couldn't handle taking on such a big movie.

It can also mean that he didn't want to compromise with studio demands for the project. It will be interesting to hear the actors take on this, but we will need to wait a while for that.

Keep in mind he wasn't fired from Fantastic Four, he was fired from Star Wars. That tells me it wasn't simply a creative disagreement over what this movie should be since that won't affect what some other movie could be. I don't think it's creative disagreement over the Star Wars project since it's barely in the development stage and I'd have to imagine he wouldn't have been brought on unless they agreed on the broad outlines (if I'm wrong about that, Disney's LucasArts is going to have as many problems as Warner Bros. is having). That tells me personal differences (particularly with Kinberg, who is the common thread) is the most likely explanation. So, unless Kinberg is inclined to hold grudges and have hissy fits, it suggests something that undermines their faith in Trank's ability to delivery a film as important as a Star Wars film without serious problems.

It is most likely he wasn't prepared for how much of a business big films are. Maybe Trank's future lies in smaller Indy films for awhile. Kevin Smith never really got a big movie break either and he did all right for himself.

But once again, it is all speculation until we know more details.

Saw the new trailer at my Avengers screening, what a difference the big screen makes. I believe this may be the version that breaks the curse for this franchise.

I'm still meh about it. I'm becoming more selective about what I see in theaters, so it's unlikely that I'll see this one in the theater unless the initial buzz is really good.

Was he? I had assumed for at least a year that Star Wars would have precluded him from doing the sequel.

Although that doesn't undermine my point at all. I agree he isn't going to be back for either Star Wars or Fantastic Four. I was just pointing out they don't fire you from movie B because you disagree with how to handle movie A.

I'm too lazy to look for it but I'm pretty sure I read an interview with Miles Teller some weeks ago where he enthused about a sequel but was non-committal about Trank returning.

6 Billion. Fantastic Four is going to make 6 billion!

(Obviously not.)

Trank needs to Bomb or Bust Blocks, to keep a name, anything middle of the road is going to make him invisibly fade away.

All that I have seen of this so far, I've liked. However I doubt that I will see this in theaters, I'm not sure if I'm going to see Avengers. So I actually hope this does well, but I'm not confident it will.

That house must have been filled with some pretty expensive stuff for a couple of small dogs to do $100,000 worth of damage. In ordinary people terms, that's like they tore down the whole damn house.

I have a friend who knows someone that worked on the film. Apparently Trank would often show up to set blazed out of his mind, sometimes late or not at all. Naturally 20th Century Fox doesn't want the film to be associated with that kind of behavior so blaming it on Trank's "dogs" is easier and better from a public relations standpoint - but it clear what was really happening behind the scenes.

However, with that said, I don't want to delve too much into rumors and speculation. From what I've heard, there was definite behind-the-scenes drama on Fantastic Four and I've heard multiple sources corroborate this. I'm just not sure to what extent how true some of the stories are. I've heard enough about some things to form a basic understanding of what happened behind-the-scenes but at the same time I don't want to judge prematurely without knowing all of the facts. As someone that wasn't directly or even indirectly involved in the situation, that will probably never happen unless someone involved in the production explicitly states these rumors as facts - but that's probably not going to happen.

Did everyone give up on this?

Well, I saw the trailer.

Highlights to me looked like Johnny Storm and they don't seem to be doing too much "camp" like the first FF movie that had Chris Evans and Michael Chilkis.

The rest seemed rather unremarkable. It could be the way the trailer was done, but it reminded me very much of the plot of the game DOOM. Specifically DOOM 3, which was really just a reboot of the original. I don't know if that's because of the comic or not, or perhaps dimensional travel to hellish regions just looks similar no matter who does it. Also, with all of that emphasis on dimensional travel, I'm a little disappointed Annihilus isn't going to be about.

Over all, I'll certalinly watch it when it comes on Netflix or FX.

I think this was pretty evident even before the house trashing that the production of FF was not smooth by any means.
