Fandango Poll: Star Trek most anticipated for 09*

I know it is at the top of my list!!!!
In fact, besides Harry Potter, Star Trek is the only movie I am guaranteed to go see in 2009.
I am kind of picky...

Looking good, this film is going to do well most likely, if the overwhelmingly positive reviews, trailer, and polls like this are anything to judge by.

Go Star Trek. :D

Seems Harry Potter is more of a chick thing.

The tracking on Star Trek has been pretty good so far, as have pretty much ever poll I've seen conducted so far. The studio must be pretty happy with the reaction. I am more confident that ever this will be a big hit.

I'm curious what the demographics of those who took the poll were. It doesn't surprise me men are more interested in women (if the male to female ratio at most Trek cons and movies I've gone to before are any indicator).

As for "Transformers", it doesn't surprise me that it isn't #1 or 2 on the list since the ad campaign for it hasn't begun yet. I've told lots of people (outside of the Trekbbs and online geek community) about the sequel and their reaction is always "They're making another one?! Cool!" followed by ranting about their fave scene from the first. :)

I don't think Star Trek has ever really appealed to teenage girls, past or present...

Looking forward to wiping the smiles off naysayer faces in 5 months :)

Flake's remark may not have been the best thing he could have chosen to say, but Matt, you have already received one advisory this morning in another thread to cool it. You aren't cooling it, and you're making it personal in a way that his comment was not. No more advisories -- you have a warning for trolling.

And yet does Flake get at least a warning?? I know MattJC's record around this forum does is not reflect smart thinking, (but some actually agree with his opinion, such as myself) and just warning him about this topic enflames me and makes me wonder about this board.

It isn't Matt's opinion which earned him a warning, and you are welcome to state yours on the topic of discussion at any time. I'm not planning on issuing Flake a warning and any further discussion of that issue should be taken to PM, as per board policy, and not conducted in the thread.

Sorry for my comment earlier, didn't mean for it to generate such a fuss :)

This new Star Trek is targeted to a broad and wide audience this means it is most definitely going to conflict with what some people want. I know I will enjoy it for what it is, a fun action/adventure film with lots of shit going on. What is annoying to me is that some people appear to want it to fail because it does not 'agree' with their personal view of what Star Trek XI should be when imho pandering to the niche within a niche would have been suicide for a movie with as big a budget as this one.

There was no way they where ever going to get what they wanted from Paramount, the fan films will undoubtadley cater to their tastes and will certainly in there eyes be 10x better than the movie Abrams will make.

The movie is Star Trek, the same characters, ships, locations, backstory and the same message. Surely as a fan of Star Trek you want to see it do well and if this new movie gets a few new fans crossing over into watching the fan films and helping the community thrive and grow then it will be worth it even for the 'naysayers'

I mean, some people dislike everything post 1979 - some even 1968. If the film was made for them then I really don't see it being a financial success.

Gosh, I am a teenage girl.

I guess I'm very much in the minority... 6%, yo!

I am not into Harry Potter or the Twilight series, either. Never read them, never going to, and probably never gonna see the movies either.

I knew and know a great many teenage girls who were and are into Star Trek.

Some of them are quite attractive.

Uggh. Star Trek isn't about being highly anticipated. It was always about the ideas of humanity working together and appeasing Gene Roddenberry's bold and bright vision of the future. Once it becomes cool, becomes appealing to bigger audiences, or looks like it might be good or epic.... then it is no longer Star Trek.

J.J. Abrahamans just doesn't get it.
