Ok, I rented this last weekend and it was...um...not funny.

Anyone else agree? What's your take on this long awaited so-called comedy?

I just watched it last night. Honestly, I liked the last ten minutes, Shatner's appearance (which was shown in the trailer), and some of the other cameos, but otherwise the movie seemed very flat. I agree on the not funny. I think I chuckled twice. There was a fanfilm on theforce.net a few years ago about some guys trying to make a fanfilm that covered a lot of this material, including the Wars vs. Trek fan bits, far more entertainingly than this movie did.

While it wasn't laugh out loud funny, I enjoyed it a lot for the constant and sometimes subtle Star Wars references. Also, three different Seth Rogen roles!

Went to go see it in theaters earlier this year, and thought it was pretty good, for what it is - a fan's movie about fans. The last line, though, is simply the best.

Bought the DVD, but I haven't re-watched it yet.

I quite enjoyed it. Seth Rogen was hilarious, and I've liked Chris Marquette since Joan of Arcadia.

Oh, and Kristen Bell

To be honest, it had a couple of good moments that made me laugh...but this was nowhere near as funny as Free Enterprise...

Shatner's Caesar rap song was inspired. I can never find it as a song file anywhere!

Indeed! It was freakin hilarious!!

But, some of the characters in that movie remind me of other fans I have known over the years...throwing in movie quotes and references and such...

Hmmm, I'm getting mixed feelings here. I saw this in Best Buy the other day and almost bought it, but put it down in favor of the last season of Bewitched that I still didn't have.

Is this thing worth $14.00, or not?

I thought it was terrible. There are very few actual jokes in the movie. Its "humor" comes from just making random references to Star Wars and other pop culture items.

"I'm going to quote a line from Star Wars in this instance, and that means it's COMEDY GOLD! Do you see what I did there? I took a line from Star Wars and said it in response to a situation! I'm funny! Do you not see how funny I am?"

^ Hey, don't give away the winning formula for the Jason Friedberg/Aaron Seltzer movie magic!!!

I expected very little and that was pretty much what I got.

The whacked out drug guy(hairy ugly guy)was repulsive. Also there's nothing I hate worse(well, except Americans who pronounce "herbs" as "erbs")than fans who look down on other fans as lame.

I have a friend like that and he is a bit of a dick.

Funny thing is, he really liked this film!

Unlike Free Enterprise -- I definitely would NOT buy Fanboys. I'd rent it and see what you think before buying the thing...I just rented it.

:guffaw:Perhaps he found it to be art imitating life...particularly HIS life?

This guy LOVES ST because he feels it shows a positive view of the future.

Now, remember that term, "the future".

He once told me that SW wasn't so much his thing because, "It takes places in the past(A long time ago...)and it isn't even OUR society(In a galaxy far, far away...).

Thus it is not something he can really get excited about because it isn't a glorious rendering of our positive, hopeful future.

That's when I knew he was a little bit different.

Yet, now wait for this, the same guy loves, loves, LOVES "Planet of The Apes". For me, this show was always the exact OPPOSITE of ST because it was a VERY bleak and depressing future that the two astronauts were now stuck in. It was nightmarish and there was NO escape.

SF fans can be strange.

:wtf: THAT ONE seems to be...

It's on the soundtrack, which I'm sure you can pick up for less than ten bucks, as I did a few years ago.

Haven't seen Fanboys yet, though. Hope it's at least half as good as Free Enterprise.
