Fan Film Friday

Long-tme readers of Triple-F will remember our coverage of a cosmic adventure of epic proporations called Star Trek: Armada. Enterprise to continue a battle with the fate of two quadrants at stake!

>>Thanks for the glowing review. I take it you didn't get the email I sent with the artwork?<<

I did get them, and the middle illustration in the review was from what you sent. The others didn't quite fit with the layout I had in mind, but I'm hanging onto them in case you get the urge to do another Trek animation.

Thanks again for sending them. I find it's always better to have too much instead of not enough!

Looking forward to Ascension! Catch you later!

Fan Film Friday has been pretty "animated" for the past few weeks, so this tmie around, it's back to live action with a review of the first full-length episode of the Project: Potemkin series of independent Star Trek productions, which is entitled "The Void."

While the crew of the U.S.S. Potemkin tries to determine why three starships in the same sector have disappeared during the past month, the situation gets much more complicated when the Klingons arrive on the scene!

This week's review "sounds" good as the folks behind the excellent science-fiction live-action comedy series Voyage Trekkers gives us their latest misadventure as a "Radio Play" entitled "The Quest for the Golden Orb."

The four-part audio program begins with Captain Sunstrike, Commander Powell and Doctor Rena from the GSV Remarkable visiting a poverty-stricken planet and battling the sinister and slimy Vendrexxi with the future of that world at stake!

It's sequel time again at Fan Film Friday as we review "Reflections of Evil," a follow-up to the classic Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror."

In this independent animated production by Roland Doiron (who is also known as RoTV), the Mirror Universe Enterprise comes to our dimension and begins wreaking havoc, starting with a devastating attack on "our" Enterprise, which is on the final adventure of its five-year mission.

Several fan film folks have asked me why I haven't reviewed the Lord of the Rings favorite, "The Hunt for Gollum." Well, "ask, and ye shall receive" (with a bit of patience, that is).

The highest compliment I can give an independent production based on a professional project is that it feels like an extension of the original episodes or movies. That's definitely the case with "Gollum" since several characters actually resemble the actors in the Rings feature films.

So here's the link to my review: http://www.fanfilmfollies.com/fan-film-follies/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-hunt-for-gollum

It's Friday again, and this week's column reviews a computer-generated production of Doctor Who starring the 10th Doctor, who was played by David Tennant.

When a little girl calls for help, the Doctor must face a deadly new enemy that is using a temporal distortion to attempt to destroy Earth! Can the Time Lord defeat one of the strangest hybrids he's ever encountered, and can he rescue Lily, who is kept captive by the Cybermen?

This week's life lesson: When your computer is in the shop, don't count on the local library to be open on Good Friday.

With that out of the way, Fan Film Friday reviews "The Child," the latest production from Star Trek: Phase II. It was originally used as the basis for the first episode of the second season of The Next Generation, but Jon Povill both wrote and directed the P2 version so we can see what his vision of the story really was.

If you think variety is the spice of life, then this week's Fan Film Friday column is for you!

This week, we look at two vignettes produced by the folks at Project: Potemkin. The first is called "Doctor's Orders" and introduces the starship's grouchy new chief medical officer.

Then "Delivery" is a Twilight Zone-like mystery with an ending that surprised me.

And as always, enjoy!

It's one of the reasons why I like Potemkin so much.
While there are many great full-length shows, Potemkin's variable episode length allows the core team to do justice to stories that would suffer if you tried to forcefully turn them into regular-length episodes.

One of the things I enjoy about watching independent productions is that inhabitants of more than one "universe" can cross paths, and if it's done well, can add something to both worlds.

This time around, it's an unlikely team-up featuring Indiana Jones and ... Batman! Just hearing about the premise of Indiana Jones and the Relic of Gotham interested me, and I enjoyed the whole production.

Here's the link if you want to check it out for yourself: http://www.fanfilmfollies.com/fan-film-follies/indiana-jones-and-the-relic-of-gotham-2

Sorry, folks, but someone again decided I was in need of a nasty bug, so I won't have a new Fan Film Friday this week. I'm contemplating the concept of finding an Avengers fan film for the next time around.

Catch you next week!

It's Friday again, so here's another fan film for you to enjoy over the weekend (if not sooner).

This week's independent production is an animated encounter between the Borg and the Enterprise--under the command of Captain James T. Kirk!

Things look pretty bleak until the crew receives help from another captain of the Enterprise.

This production is a "mashup," which combines elements and dialogue from other Trek movies and TV shows, so enjoy!
