Fan Film Friday

In this edition of Fan Film Friday, we look into the history of one of the most popular groups to make independent productions. Everyone has to start somewhere, and Hidden Frontier began with a fan film from 1999 entitled "Return to Duty."

Enjoy!

Here's a question for everyone: When I started doing Fan Film Friday a year ago last July, I was pumped and put everything but the kitchen sink in my columns. Lately, I've been wondering if I should handle the reviews like I do the previews. I wouldn't give away the ending, but put some teasers instead with the idea that this might encourage more readers to go check out the fan film and see the ending for themselves. Still, I might pass a few clues readers' way. Any comments of suggestions?

I guess it boils down to what you'd prefer to do. Personally, I think the system you have is fine, but I can see how some people would prefer not to be spoiled.

I think, as long as you make to clear your reviews are spoiler-ific, they're fine as is. :)

I agree. I appreciate that your reviews are quite thorough. I'd say keep doing what you're doing.

Here's another Fan Film Friday to round out your work week. This time, we're looking at Season 2 of a series I had checked out back in August of last year: Star Trek Armada, an animated series that uses actual voices rather than word balloons! Check it out at http://scifipulse.net/?p=11614. Enjoy!

My pleasure, Caiithlin.I'd intended to review your second season several months ago, but other things got in the way and I forgot.

I really enjoyed the twist about the origin of the "bad guy" and "good guy" aliens. Very interesting indeed.

Pop me an email when your next season comes out, and I'll check it out and definitely not let it gather cyber dust from waiting on the cyber table. (I'm still saddened that I didn't get to to it sooner! Sheesh!)

I'm also looking forward to see how Bones is rescued and what impact the new super technology will have on the Federation and its allies and enemies..

I've been thinking about the question of whether I should put everything in the article about a fan film or not discuss the ending. Then I remembered that many places use the word "Spoiler" or "Spoiler Warning.'

I think that might be a good approach to give people a place to jump off until they watch the film themselves. Then they can go back and take in the entire article. What do you folks think of this as a sort of compromise in which everyone who wants to read the article can do so, and those who don't want to can head for the hills when they see the word "Spoiler?"

Let me know what you folks think of that strategy.

Just what I mentioned on the 'upcoming' thread.

We've another HF/Intrepid collaboration; a 7 minute vignette entitled One of Our Own, which ties into the Odyssey/Helena Chronicles storyline. I'm hopeful it'll be ut this month, but it dependent upon the score.

We also have our next episode, The Stone Unturned in post, which will hopefully be released before the year is out. We also have some new vignettes (two of which have been shot and are well into post, and another that is due to be shot early next month) and another couple of episodes in the pipeline. In fact, I'm working on a 'bottle show' script, that will hopefully be fast-tracked, right now.

I always enjoy the Intrepid productions. Maybe we'll get something in time for Christmas, I hope.

I'm pretty sure we'll have something released before Christmas. Ultimately it's down to the free time of the many people who volunteer their services, and I don't want to pester any of them *too* much. :)

This week's Fan Film Friday column takes a look at the first fan film by Doctor Who 2009, called "Fire and Ice," and takes place near Baltimore, Maryland! I never knew the TARDIS comes that close to my home base!
