Fallout: The Television Series

Watched the first two episodes tonight. Solid stuff, very evocative of the games.

Tim Cain (Creator, producer, lead programmer and designer on Fallout 1) talking about the hollywood premier and the first two episodes. He liked them

Watched Episode 1, I couldn't stand a second of it. It obviously put all of its money into costuming and literally nothing into the script, if you told me it was written by AI I'd believe you because of how incoherent it was. So many unanswered questions, but not the kind you want to go unanswered, its more that the logistics of everything that happen make absolutely no sense. Now I have a better idea of how Witcher fans felt watching the Netflix show, the visuals generally match the source material but it almost feels like the people making the show resented having to make it.

Another terrible video game "adaptation" to add to the pile, at least it showed its "quality" in episode 1 so I didn't waste any more time on it.

I'm done the first two episodes, I'm off at a Con this weekend so I think I'll pick up again on Sunday. I have to say they have the black humor down very well.

The series takes place in 2297. The date is taken from a computer graphic showing the time that the overseer Hank Maclean was in power.
I think what he means is, when Norm and Chet go in it's a mess with corpses all over. Later when the rest of the vault go in to repopulate it, it's cleaned up. Presumably 31 cleaned it up.

Overall I really liked it. It was surprisingly gory. (I expected violence, but not quite so much gore. It's fine though.) Probably one of the best video game adaptations put to screen.

Slightly more than halfway through.

Still digging it. I will say the stuff going on 'back home' in the Vault is more interesting than Lucy's trek aboveground. There's a little too much 'wandering the wasteland' and not enough plot. Sandbox games are good- sandbox TV is not so good.

I am engaged enough that I'll definitely finish this, but I'm not climbing the walls for more at this point.

I have one major frustration with the show, though if they address it in the future it won't be a gripe.

I am not sure about the spoiler policy here, so I am putting that frustration into spoilers.

There are major gaps in Cooper Howard's storyline. We see his story from the time he was a major Western tv star to when he learned about Vault-Tec's plans to stay competitive. Then, there is a gap in the story. When we rejoin the story, he is doing birthday parties, and it is clear that he wants nothing to do with Vault-Tec. The next gap begins after the bombs drop; we don't see how he gets separated from his daughter and his wife. I was waiting for the series to address these gaps. Like I said, if a future season addresses these gaps, I will be happy.

They are getting a Season 2. It hasn't been officially announced, but someone found documentation that says they'll be getting Tax credits for filming in California in Season 2.

Amazing everything you said is wrong, so very fucking wrong.
Don't watch just one episode of a show. That's a dumbass move.

Episode 1 is the setup, and the rest of the season unravels the mystery.

I don't think that was the point. I think the threads were drawing everyone together, of showing all the interrelatedness of the various characters, and how Coop become disillusioned with the Hollywood atmosphere and his wife's work. I think we will get more in Season 2 as we unpack the Ghoul's background from how he became a Ghoul, and survived, as well as how people like Lee Moldaver survived, and all those aspects.

While I was expecting them to unpack more, the revelation that his wife was a senior Vault Tec executive makes a more interesting hook for Season 2. I agree, I hope they address it.
